U2, hands down.

What more do they really need to do in terms of record sales, longevity, musical innovation and amazing live performances to cement their place as the top rock act of all time?

I'm partial to Zero 7. But perhaps it's because I'm getting old and mellowing out a bit. Great baby-making music, though.

Trans Am is damn good also. Great hard rock.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been releasing the same single for the last ten years it seems. I know the words are different, but their songs all sound alike.

U2 IS good dont get me wrong. And, staying with this same genre of classic rock. I WOULD have to say Aerosmith. They have been around for 3 decades, makin nothing but awesome rock songs. Dont get me wrong, "I Dont Wanna Miss a Thing" wasnt as good but still was pretty good. I just think the boys from Sunapee, NH blow everyone else out of the water.

Led Zeppelin
Jimmi Page nearly wrote every cool solo out there. most everything out there is a copy, or version of.
JP is truly a master of rock'n'roll
Robert Plant has a way with vocals that is raw
John Bonham was the master of a kit, along with Keith Moon, they were the best, and still are
So in Zeppelin you have a totally raw, and incredible talented band.
The Rolling Stones
either of the two.

Overall, Led Zeppelin is the best. RHCP, bah... they're awesome but definately not the best.

In my opinion U2 held that title back in the late 80's/early 90's, one of my favorite bands!

I'm going to say... Tool.
Ænima and Lateralus were Epic.

I would have to vote for Hoax Funeral. They are a band out of a little town south of London. Kind of folk musicish, but they are really good.
The lead singer has a good haunting voice. The kind of voice you might hear singing in a dream.

no. they're not. joe strummer and the mescaleros were, but poor joe strummer is no longer with us. i'd be hard pressed to say - interpol is a strong contender, as are the yeah yeah yeahs. john vanderslice, possibly. gorillaz? the faint?
feh. it's not possible. no one band can be the best.
