When I search name change on the web, all I get are sites that want to sell me packages of legal forms for name change. I want to know what office/govt dept takes care of this and if I can apply for the change in person.

There should be a social security administration office in your area. You can go there and get your social security card put back in your married name. They will request a copy of your marriage certificate for this. Most other things are very simple. Just call your credit card companies and any other companies that you have accounts with and tell them that you
are married and that you need to change your last name on your account. If you have any further questions, please call your local courthouse for assistance. They will be able to answer all of your questions. Changing your last name isn't hard to do. I hoped this answer helped. Take care. Congratulations.

After you have your marriage license, all you have to do is go to the Social Security office near you and fill out a form for the name change. This will take care of the IRS too. Go to your bank and do the same thing. You can call any doctors, etc. and tell them you have married and now have a new last name, they just change their records. You don't need any service to do this for you.

you just need to go to your local social secruity office. They will help you with all the process. You can get the forms online and have them filled out when you get there. This will save you quiet a bit of time. You will need your Marriage license when you go.

There isn't a governmental department that does this. You are responsible to make the change with Social Security, credit cards, etc. with a copy of your signed marriage license.
