How does the V.P. have the power to take control? Has a V.P. ever had this much power in the past?

Since NORAD had done such a phenomenal job of chasing down planes that ventured off course before 9/11 - why would Bush give Cheney control (or why would Cheney take control) over NORAD a few months before 9/11?
It worked perfectly before they placed their paws on it.

Through a chain of command, but then you wouldn't have any idea about that would you ? Things have come a long way since FDR's days in office, remember Truman ? I doubt it........

Vice President Mondale was given much power in the Carter Administration. Vice President George H W Bush was also in charge of a lot of matters for the Reagan administration and some rumor he was the one who sealed the deal with the Iranians on the early hostage release.

Military command is not a matter of personal whim (or bullying). The Armed Forces answer to the Prez, however if he says, listen to the VP, they will do that.
