Hi there
This Q comes up from time to time and there is no quick fix. That said I have answered it a few times and as an ageing motorcyclist I passed my test YEARS ago so this advise is based on that I gave my son and my son in law
1. Do everything that you have been taught by your instructor. You have paid him or her good money to teach you the correct way and you "MUST" have faith in his or her ability to teach.
2. Do nothing that anyone else has told you to do and do nothing that you think might "impress" the examiner over and above what your instructor has taught you. He has seen it all before.
3. The examiners are mostly on your side. They would much rather pass you than fail you but they must make sure that you are not going to be a danger. They are likely to relax you as much as they can.
4. Have a light meal before your last lesson and test
5. Take a deep breath and just do it
6. Above all remember 1 & 2

7, 8, 9, & 10. Just pass and then enjoy the road out there and be safe for all of us

Good luck and post another Q to let us know how you got on.

I'd agree with those that say - avoid all medication. Apart from the effects of the drug during the test, you may end up relying on it for all your driving. For any such drug to be effective it must act on your brain to change it in some way. There will be side effects. for example, you may feel calmer, but be less able to concentrate. This is fine in a desk exam, where you remain calm, fail and walk out. On a bike test - not so good.

If being calm is generally a problem for you then I would suggest yoga - with a particular emphasis on the breathing exercises. These need to be practiced in advance so that they become almost second nature.

If your test is very soon I would arrange a postponement if possible. Practice riding and "breathing", then go for it.

Being a biker myself, I'd suggest practicing riding your own bike until you're confident you can handle it well. Taking drugs before a test...hmmm...why would you want to possibly mess with those? Practice and confidence go a lot farther than drugs any day. Besides, if you get in an accident, they might do a drug test! You want your mind clear when taking those tests. Being a biker means you not only watch your own driving, but the driving of others too. Your best bet is to practice, practice, practice. Don't take your test until you've got it down to memory. Another thing...you're not the first person who was nervous when taking their test. Every person that takes the test IS nervous. It keeps you on your toes, so that you'll do the best you can. Talk to others who have taken the test, and see what their experience was like. I think you'll do just fine without the pills. <*)))><

If you are worried about taking a simple test, it may be a sign that you are not ready to take the test, but if you must take the test now, study the book your state hands out over and over again until you know it backwards and fore wards. Then study it some more.

If you are still nervous when you take the test, remember the fate of the free world doesn't rest on this test. Right!
Or does it?
Good Luck

If you can not stay calm during a motorcycle test then you better think twice about riding out on the roads since there is a lot more scary things that will happen than trying to get your license.

I've done many tests and the examiners are aware of the fact you will be nervous and i have always been extremely nervous but got through ok.

They unofficialy tend give you a small amount of time to settle in before they become to critical, just pretend your on a ride out with a mate, and don't forgrt your lifesavers as thats where most people fail ;)

I got two ideas.

One, meditate before the test or if you don't meditate do some exercise. Get loose in your body.

Two, make sure you have the right kind of bike for the test---which means a very SMALL one. Don't take your test on a big CC motorcycle. Borrow someone's dinky little bike if you don't have one.

A good nights sleep, a good breakfast, take it easy on the coffee.
Do a light work out plenty of time before and most importantly,,,*** listen to Pink Floyds ,Dark Side of The Moon***,,,
All the benefits of a sedative with none of the side effects.

There is a product called Kalms, which I believe you would be able to buy in a health shop, and possibly some chemist"s, they are quite safe to take, they don't contain any drugs! All the best with your test x

I suggest you not take anything. You'll do fine. I took the test and passed on the first try. Fairly easy if you studied. Good Luck!
