Saddam Hussein's Iraq was listed as a state sponsor of terrorism for over a decade by administrations of both parties, why has the issue become so muddled that now many people proclaim that Hussein had "nothing" to do with terrorism?

Mr G: terrorism - the calculated use of violence (or threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear

Saddam terrorized his own people by gassing and killing thousands of them...hmmmm, why do you not consider this terrorism?

diogenese_97: We all know Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. We have to go after all terrorists, not just the ones that the people on 9/11 committed. Clinton had that same mindset when the WTC got bombed and the Embassy in Sudan got bombed...twice. I heard he put those people in jail, but yet he did nothing to stop future attacks, and low and behold, 9/11 occurred...i'm not saying 9/11 was Clintons fault, but he could have done so much more to protect us from future terrorist attacks.

Because it doesn't fit into the message of Bush defending the country against terrorists and those who supported it like Saddam. Go to you-tube, and check out the speech that Senator Al Gore delivered when he was running for President in 1992. Also look up Patterns of Global Terrorism 1994. Also, the people who tried to blow up the World Trade Center the first time fled to Iraq after they left the US. Also check out the checks that Saddam gave to families of homicide bombers who blew up Jews in the Middle East. Also check out Salman Pak, which was a terrorist training ground in Iraq where they had the fuselage of a 707 so that they could learn on how to take over an airplane.

No one said that he had nothing to do with terrorism, get your facts straight. What is argued is that Hussein did not have anything to do with 9/11. He was targeted by Al Quaida because Iraq was a secular country and the fanatics were trying to turn it into an Islamic state. Hussein managed to keep them at bay but George Bush has let them into the country and now we have to fight them there. Neo-Cons twist the facts to suite their spin but the truth is that Iraq was not a fanatical country until we stepped in.

They mean that he didn't actually had to do with the terrorism that was affecting the U.S. ( Al Qaeda and Usama bin Laden ). However he did terrorize his own people in horrendous ways, but Americans just don't give 2 f/u/cks about other people. Simple as that.

he's dead. his people whom he terrorized will never forget, and he's not part of our countries history yet till they put this war in the history books...government doesn't want to admit they spent all that time making Clinton look like a pervert which gave bin laden the time to put his plan into action..how many times were our inspectors over in Iraq? how soon we forget..

Because that wouldn't fit in with the whole Bush-bashing theme, would it?

It's amazing how the left-leaning folks conveniently forget salient facts in the name of the incessant campaign to belittle the President.

And then have the temerity to whine about being called traitors and backstabbers.

Ask any liberal and I am sure they will tell you he was not as bad as President Bush. His killing of tens of thousands of Iraqis was an internal affair anyway.

you are taking it out of context.

He had nothing to do with the terrorism in the US from 2001.

He was a tyrant, murderer, sponsor of genocide, but it's completely unfound that he had anything to do with what you refer to as terrorism.
