It's like they don't give equal time to their white side.

Because you can never please both sides, whilst you are more likely to merge in with black people. I find it irritating too, like when Halle Berry kept prattling on about how she is the first black woman to win an Oscar. Newsflash the post is still open.

I give both sides of my identity equal air time and don't classify myself as black or white.

They may have had to grow up hearing; You're not white, or you're not black. Your not asking a question as much as you are inferring that these men like their black roots more than their white. Both of the men you identify have political agendas. They try to establish a political base by identifying with that segment of the population.

Hilary Clinton is obviously white. But listen to her talk to an African-American group, and all of sudden she sounds like Lil Kim.

It doesn't matter which side they identify with since identifying with either would be equally correct.

Honestly, it's about popularity.

Most white people don't really have a problem with someone of a mixed background identifying more with their black roots. However, it seems like black people would have a problem if they identified more with their white roots. They can choose one, and keep most people happy...or they can choose the other and alienate an entire group.

And it's true that among most white people, if you have a mixed white/black heritage, you are commonly regarded as black. Purely for physical reasons. Generally, someone of mixed heritage looks more black than white.

Wow...it's hard to answer this question without feeling a touch racist. I swear I'm not, though.

Why are you concerned with how other people define their ethnicity? People have the right to define themselves for themselves. They don't have to describe themselves any other way but how they feel comfortable. Barack always acknowledges his mother and speaks of her with such love and high regard in his books and his interviews. Why is either of them being proud to be Black men, a problem for you? Why must EVERYTHING in this world be about White?

Truth is, in America, regardless of what they are mixed with, society will ALWAYS view them as Black men and will attempt to persecute them based on that. Just look at his run for presidency. They try to find ANYTHING to degrade him, talking about his name (Barack Hussein), talk about his race, his religion, any and everything that has nothing to do with the issues or his character.

I'm mixed, black, white, latina, and when I have to choose just one race (on a survey or such), I usually mark "black" because that is what I am perceived to be.

A lot of mixed people are forced to mainly acknowledge their black roots simply because they look black (have darker skin), and are interpreted as just plain black in society.

Because WHITE people (the majority in this racist society) don't look at us and say, "oh, you're white!"

They either see another BLACK person, or a light skinned BLACK...but still BLACK

Goes back to the "One Drop Rule" that if you have at least 1/16 of ***** blood, you're considered a *****.

Equal time to their white Side????? LOL!

You're wrong, they both freely acknowledge their white lineage. Why are you searching for a reason to complain?
