By opening yourself up as you describe it you are placing yourself in a vulnerable position, which in a sense leaves you at the mercy of whoever you have placed your trust in. If you feel unsure about relationships and who you can trust, then the fear is what that person might do with what you have entrusted them with.

If you are uncertain about who to trust then offer them a 'titbit' and see what they do with it. Only if they pass this test should you risk taking it further.

Probably because of a lack of self-esteem. And its probably happened before, maybe even a few times. Perhaps you're opening yourself up to the wrong people in your life. I can sorta relate to your problem, since i have a terrible fear of rejection, so i don't really open myself up at all, except to people i feel i really know. sometimes its better to remain enigmatic (not sure on my spelling) to those that you don't know until you can anaylze the situation better.

probably you have had problems where people have taken advantage of you before....you must learn to trust some people or youll feel very alone

because some people will do just that. you have to learn who you can and cant trust and open yourself to those who have earnt your trust.

you might have had a bad experience or someone have been giving you the impression that it might happen to you based on their experience.
