it's my understanding that breastmilk can safely be used with in a 24 hour time frame if kept refridgerated. my question is i have pumped a 5 oz bottle which will last my newborn all day. can i safely refridgerate, heat, refridgerate, heat throughout the day as i feed? or can it only be heated once? im confused!?

Only heat ONCE!!! Throw away any unused portion! I would recommend that you just do two ounces at a time.

I do think your baby should be eating more than 5 ounces in an entire day. You may need to check, but a baby should be eating every 2-3 hours a day, starting out at 2 ounces a feeding. Are you nursing also, I hope so.

I am under the understanding that once it it is heated under warm water, that it shouldn't be redone. However another breast feeding mother said that her doctor told her that if the baby will take it out of the fridge, ( it doesn't have to be warmed) then it dosen't loose any of the nutrients like it does when it is warmed. Then if you have any left put back in the fridge. Milk stay's good for 3-6 months in the frezer, like 3-4 day's in the fridge, and 24 hours at room tempature. I guess it depends on what you child prefers. Also you can call a lataction consultant. I called mine once a week for the first couple of months. It's their job and we need help!

I am not sure about that, but what I would suggest is breaking up the bottle into a few different bottles so that you are not constantly heating up the entire 5 oz. I have reheated a bottle for my baby before, but I wouldn't say more than 2x's.

Breastmilk is good for one feeding. So, divide the milk into 2 seperate feeding bottles so there's less waste.. Also, if you are pumping and you can pump extra milk, it's a good idea to get some breastmilk storage bags.. Gerber, Medela make them and put them in the freezer.. It's handy to have in case you need a night off or go out... Breastmilk freezes quite well and the baggies make it a cinch to label oldest/newest and oz. markers... Good luck

I would say only heat it once. Just pour the amount the baby will drink in to the bottle, and put the rest back in the fridge for later.

you can only heat it once...not only can it upset your babies stomach it will start to lose the nutrients...try only giving a small amount at a time instead of heating the entire bottle then you can go back and get more when the baby needs it...try useing www.babycenter.com i love this website i used it alot when my son was born, hes now 8 months i still use it :)

i admire the way you asked a query approximately freezing breastmilk and, in return, somebody else had to respond to your question with a query (something to the effect of, "Why are you even pumping at evening?"). powerful! besides, I did particularly analyzing and located that in case you pumped one evening and positioned it interior the refrigerator, you need to freeze it day after in the present day. desire that helps - good success!
