how does one get odours off a leather sofa?

i have moved my aunt's sofa into my new home. It has brought along with it the odour of cooking spices. Is there a way of getting rid of these odours?

Sprinkle with Baking soda, wait, then wait some more, then vaccum thoroughly.

you can try washing it with saddle soap every so often, but time will be your best ally.
