I read a story about an alligator that stated "Bill Robb, a certified gator trapper, said the reptile measured 6 feet from nose to tail. He said the alligator would be taken to an alligator farm and harvested." What does it mean they take the alligator to the farm and harvest them?

Unfortunately it means the alligator will be killed, skinned, and used for meat and leather products.

Here's a link to an "alligator farm":

Having experience with this process, this is basically how it goes, nuisance alligators pay for their own management. Relocation of adult alligators is a waste of time and resources, studies involving tagged alligators 6 feet and up in the '70's showed that alligators would travel over 150 miles to return to where they were taken from... having spent their entire lives fighting sometimes to the death over their territory, moving them around won't make them not want to be where they're from. Here in Florida, we have no Alligator Tax, if there's an alligator walking around the neighborhood, hanging out under your car, whatever, the state does not reimburse the person who comes out to get this alligator. The alligator pays the trapper's expenses. The alligator is taken to a FDA approved facility, and is rendered into various items of interest. Hides are taken and shipped to tanneries to support the never-ending demand for alligator leather for shoes, wallets, handbags, belts, luggage, you name it. The meat is removed from the carcass, trimmed of what little fat it has, and is packaged for sale. (Less fat than chicken, more protien than beef or pork... tastes just like alligator.) Depending on demand, the heads may be saved for taxidermy or skull mounts, teeth and claws can be taken and used for jewelry... basically, what can be used is used.

The state just figures "Harvesting" is nicer to say than "Butchering" *shrug* doesn't matter either way to me which word you use.

I think it means he will be bred. He will be taken to an alligator farm to be with other alligators and reproduce.
