My ex and I have been divorced for just about a year now. He ows me a small amount of money for the house we owned together. About $3000. He has not made an attempt to pay any part of this to me in the last year. I have mentioned it to him several times. He keeps telling me that he can't come up with the money. I even told him I would be willing to take payments. Being it is such a small amount I would rather not get my lawyer involved again because his fees will probably take up a large portion of the money. It is in our divorce papers that he owes this to me. How do I go about getting this from him? He does have a house, motorcycle, and several vehicles that he could sell or take a loan against.

Contact the clerks office of the court that handled your divorce and see what their requirements are about filing a contempt of court for his failure to comply with the divorce decree.

Best wishes.

Actually, although KC V gave you an option, it may not be the CORRECT option or in the correct order.

The first thing that has to be known is why does your ex owe you the money and what, if anything, does the divorce decree say as to the money.

For example, if he was to refinance the home and pay you 1/2 of the equity, WHEN does it say he is to pay that money.

And please post here WORD FOR WORD what the decree states on the subject.
