Every year it seems like the earth gets millions of years older. The dating methods they use cannot be proven to be accurate. Carbon-14 only has a half life of 5730 years. And if you point out this fact they say "oh you must not like math". We must not like "english" either because we don't like your made up story about how everything came about. We must not like "animals" either because we don't believe that our relatives are monkeys.

Carbon 14 dating is not the only way of telling how old things are. Primative people thought the world was flat but SCIENCE proved that it was not flat but round. Later with the sailing of Christopher Columbus and others non-believers were slowly convinced that they would not fall off the edge of the flat earth, center of the universe, if they sailed too far.

The Bible was written by people who had no concept of a round earth nor any of the modern conveniences we have today. They were barely out of the copper age when it was written. To explain how an automobile works, or a telephone, or the human body would boggle their minds. These folks rarely had wagons or chariots unless they were wealthy. The used animals to help with their work. If they went anywhere it was usually not more than 50 miles or so away from where they were born and the walked or rode an animal to get there. So the Bible had to be written in terms they could understand. It had to be made so primative people who were supersticious and believing in many gods would find reason to believe in one God and had to explain the unexplainable.

Today we can explain what they couldn't explain then. Does that negate the Bible, no. It puts it into perspective as a book based on history of a certain people of the Middle East and a book based on faith. It works well to explain why one should have faith in the still unexplained. The Bible works as a tool for teaching how one should conduct himself.

The Bible is not a scientific work and never was intended to be one. Let the science be science and faith be faith. The two can mix but each should also have its place in our lives.

To take the Bible strictly word for word is ridiculous. It may have been devinely inspired but one must use the knowledge of today to put that wonderful book in perspective.

In the creation story, for example, If one assumes God, the Creator, is omnipotent he can do whatever he wants and can make whatever he wants. He can also make a day whatever length He wants. So to explain to somewhat primative people that Creation was done in 6 days and that the Creator rested on the 7th day makes sense to their lives. Even today we usually take at least one day off to rest. The idea was to get people, on that one day to refresh their souls by attending synagog so the story was made that way too. Why can't God make a day 1 billion earth years in length? If we believe He is omnipotent we would not argue with him should he decide to do that. Therefore we can combine the science of evolution which we have proven exists and the belief in devine creation. His methods and times are defined by Him not by us.

One who believes strictly in the six earth days of devine creation and ignores proven science is a fool. Yes, I am calling you a fool. Get used to it. I am also not so sure those who believe strictly in evolution are much better. A combination seems to make sense to me. It sarted somewhere and scientific evidence shows it proceeded in a certain way. Why not?

Well what an objective viewpoint. A Christian saying science is wrong. Science is updated because we find out more things every day. If we knew everything from day one then science would be a religion - with all the unchangable, infallable answers to everything. Slavery = OK, women = slaves, democracy = ungodly, all those treasured Christian institutions.

I don't think there is any question that the Earth is millions of years old. I am a believer in the creation of the universe but I think it is clear the Earth isn't just 6000 or so years old.

No theory ever said our relatives are monkeys. That is an invention of creationists. The scientific evidence for the age of the earth is very reliable.

Ignorance is bliss they say. Natural selection and evolution has taken place on the earth, no doubt about it. Go get a PhD in the sciences, then, talk about the science.

You still suffer from a primitive belief system. There is no God. Certainly not what is written in your highly edited Bible.
