6 is really too young for the harsh chemicals. If you do end up doing this, you'll see damage straight away. I would go to a professional, if you do decide this as it is the best option. Most little girls like a press & curl and if they/you are afraid of the hot comb, go for a hot iron type. Right now it may seem like the easier option, but in the long run, you'll regret it once her hair has breakage & damage. It's sad, plus, think of how her ponytails will all of a sudden start shrinking in size due to this damage. I've seen it too many times. . .

Just do the press and curl for now. You don't want to damage her hair by processing it this early. Some people will tell you that a kid perm (like Just for Me) is okay, but it's still a perm.
Back in the day, the rule of thumb was to wait until her first period to put a permanent chemical on a girl's hair. (I know they start earlier and earlier these days, but wait until at least 10 or 11).

You can press it now.........as far as a perm I would say age 10-12 is good.

There is a product called 'Just For Me' that is a gentle relaxer. I began to use it on my daughter when she turned five.
