and I'm getting a new one. i figured that since I've been wanting to upgrade the system for a while now, that I should buy a better board now rather than an exact replacement. I have a Dell system (if it makes any difference) and I was wondering if 1). I can use a non-Dell board with it, and 2) If so, any reccomendations?

PS: I AM sure that it's the mother board, not the power supply (people always ask, "Are you sure it's not the power supply?"

Dell also has a habit of using their own power supplies in most of their computers, meaning you'd better check to make sure that the PSU has the same plug configuration as a standard 16 or 20 port ATX plug.

Something to think about. If you change motherboards, your Dell Restore probably won't work, so you'll also need a copy of Windows.

Advise replacing the CPU's fan if the MB was fried from heat.

Gigabyte is a good brand, get a P35 if you feel like it.
