Hello; Many people do not realise this, but Windows XP actually comes with CD burning software! There's no need to steal, or buy special software. It's not the best program, but hey, it's already on your computer, and it's free! And it's pretty much a given that any computer since XPs release has (at the least!) a CD burner. Of course, it is also completely possible that your computer has additional CD burning software. If you are unsure, go through the programs you have, and find out what each one does... but XP absolultely has the ability on its' own.

When you put a CD in your computer, a box should come up, asking you what to do, if you take the time to read this box, one of the options is to burn a CD. Uncheck the box that says "always take this action", because you won't always want to burn a CD, right? If this is the CD you wanna burn, the select that option. If you only have one CD slot, then the computer will automatically copy the files onto a temporary directory, and burn them to the CD when it tells you to put a new one in the tray.

The biggest thing is to take the time, and read the boxes that open up on your screen, while using the computer.... too many ppl just close those annoying boxes, not knowing that they are limiting themselves to learning a bit more about the machine they're using.

Of course there are several other options and ways to copy & burn CDs, the windows Help (when you have a windows explorer open, hit F1, and help comes up; select "index" and start to type "burning CDs" and the topic will pop up, select it, and read on! Of course you can use the help (as boring as it may be) to answer many, many more questions you may have in the future! I hope you found this useful! If not, you might want to go here: (click the link, or copy & past it in your browser); http://www.satirewire.com/features/siliconpines/about.shtml

Good Luck & God Bless!;

First, your CD drive has to be a "burner", not just a "player". Usually if you look right on the front of the drive near the door where you insert the CD, it will have an emblem that tells you it is a CD-ROM (which is a player only), or a CD-R or CD-RW (which is a burner).

Windows XP is able to burn to a CD by just draging the files you want to burn to the CD drive. But it is difficult to use. You will want a CD burning software such as Nero or Roxio. (Check http://download.com for other freeware/shareware burning programs). You should also have received a burning software with your CD burner. Check for any disk that came with the drive or computer to see if you have either Nero or Roxio.

Windows XP has CD Burning as built-in feature. As long as your CD-drive is also a CD-Burner and you have the proper media in the drive, i.e. CD-R or CD-RW then you should be able to burn to the CD.

1) you need a cd rom that can burn cd's.
2) you need software.

The best way to tell is to insert a blank cd into the drive, copy a file to it and see if it comes up saying waiting to write files to cd.

First you have to have a cd burner or a dvd player cause pretty much all dvd players are burners / writers but you also have to have the drivers/software for your burner which should come with your burner/writer
