What helped me most in labor was soaking in a hot tub. It relaxed me and took the edge off the pain.
I also took along some of those antacid "soft chews." They helped to settle my stomach.
If you have back labor, a heating pad feels wonderful as does counter-pressure to the small of your back.

Stay active - labor dancing (leaning on someone and swaying your hips back and forth), showering, walking, taking a hot bath, etc...
Acupressure/counter-pressure - pressure on your sacrum, lower back, coccyx, or hip joints can alleviate lower back/butt pressure while hand and foot massages can promote relaxation while making contractions more efficient.
Massage - whether it is deep tissue massage, light brushing on your arm or belly, or pulling a brush through your hair, massage stimulates the nerve endings of the area that is being massaged and 'pulls' pain away from the contraction. It also promotes relaxation.
Darkness - there are scientific studies that have proven women labor better in darkness (perhaps natures design and that is why the majority of women go into labor at night)?
Good luck ladies!

I asked my husband to bring the face cloth full of water and squeeze it all on my face. So make sure you have a basin or something near you full of water you'll need that :) The most important thing is to stay calm and relax as much as you can.. and concentrate on pushing. (i didn't do that , I was trembling during labour and in all I passed from a 15 hr labour. And all cuz I was scared and was dilating very slowly) Best of luck. You'll soon see your baby in your arms and forget averything xxx

I walked and I sat on the bed in a cross legged style with my back straight and the baby slipped right into place in a hurry. I had him within 1 hour of arriving at the hospital. It may be a coincidence or it may be a method. It is worth a try. Good Luck and blessings on your little one.

I was in labor for 19 hours, the best thing for me was the fact that my hubby brought a movie series for me to watch. It helped get my mind off everything for a bit. But if you do this, don't watch something your hubby wants to watch. I made that mistake because my hubby LOVES smallville and he would be like HOLD ON! THIS IS THE GOOD PART! get something you know he won't care about so he is still focused on you. It needs to be all about u, and if it isn't those contractions will sure make you want it to be like that.

For me the breathing exercises never worked well. I took the advice of a friend and hummed while I had a contraction. The noise and vibration helped to calm me down and distract me, even if for a second. I also got on my hands and knees and rocked back and forth. This made it comfortable for me instead of being on my back all day.

Rice socks....socks full of rice sewn shut....then stuck in the microwave for a minute or two...put them on your lower back....these helped me immensly..I learned about them in lamaze class...they retain the heat for a long time which eases back pains from labor
a warm/hot shower in the very beginning of labor at home or at the hospital...this helped me to dialate much quicker

I had sounds of the ocean playing in the background and to my surprise it helped for a while.
You can also try ice chips because your mouth will get dry.

Congratulations, and stable success! (yet what are you doing on line!??!) Time your contractions. in the event that they're quarter-hour aside or much less, get your self to a wellness facility or make an pressing call on your midwife!!!
