Yes, not only was the Patriot Act painted as temporary, for the duration of the war on terror, but it also expired by it's own terms. That's why Congress had to renew it. Yes, I believed that it would not be renewed because I thought American citizens and the Congress would have by 2006. It won't be so easy to repeal or change most of it. Politicians who push the repeal will be branded as traitors.

People need to fight this Patriot Act! This is serious....
The USA Patriot Act, the landmark bill that stripped away several Constitutional privacy restraints and ushered in a new era of domestic spying, is about to be expanded. According to the Center for Public Integrity, the Justice Department is working feverishly to extend the Patriot Act into new spheres of control over the American people. And much like it’s predecessor, the government is working in the dark with this bill, busying itself with the tyrannical details while the American people are distracted with wars and rumors of wars.
The second Patriot Act, given the harmless title of the “Domestic Security Enhancement Act of 2003” (high resolution – low resolution) is currently in draft form, and is reported to have been sent to Speaker of The House Hastert and Vice President Cheney in early January. This act contains substantial cuts to civil liberties, personal privacy, and decimates several amendments listed in the Bill of Rights.
Don’t stop telling the truth, and don’t be afraid to fight this evil with every chance you get...because once this bill passes, freedom is truly dead, and it will be too late to talk about saving our country, or what is left of it.

Have you checked out the voting record of every single representative that has knowingly done this? Are there any Democrats who voted against it? What about Hillary and Obama? Are they apposed to it?
Our rights have been stripped by every single one of them and they knew it when it was approved. Let's not single out one party. They're all in it together. It's time to select a new slate of representatives, right across the board.

Yes, I remember and I was thinking it should actually be permanent. Seems to me most everyone has been for this law. Unfortunately, if you want security, you have to give up a little freedom...it just works that way.

Thank you! Someone brought this up. When was it "supposed to" retire?
The Patriot Act scares the sh*t out of me.

Blah, blah, blah!
Do you remember when Bill Clinton said, "I did not have sex with that women?" Or when Sandy Burger said, "I didn't intentionally steal those secret documents from the library of Congress?" Do you remember when Ted Kennedy said, "I don't remember what happened" to Mary Kopectney(sp?) while he left her to drown?
Blah, blah, blah!

I hope it is permanent. And I am not a Republican. If it saves one life it is worth while. People don't like it because it is infringing on their rights. I have the right not to be blown up.
