Oh I know the true meaning of the phrase and the old band by the same name. I was just curious who else knew.

The complete phrase is "hair of the dog that bit you," and refers to the practice of having a drink to help soothe a hangover.

Yeah, you wake up with a massive hangover and drink what you had last night or a Bloody Mary. Some drink a warm beer but I can't stand that.

Yeah, the drinking/hangover thing. But also a great song by Nazareth!!! Not sure why they call it that though- other than I guess it can also mean revenge

Sure. My alcoholic father lived by it. It's trying to cure last night's hangover by waking up and drinking more of the same.

Sure enough....it means in order to cure your hangover...drink some of what you had the night before....I never could do it though

yes, and I can't even imagine doing that this morning-yuck-drank 3 beers and a litre of wine-yes a whole litre and there is no way I'm putting another drink in my mouth
