My cousin had twins few months back, now they not sure whether they are identical or not? Is there a method of knowing whether the two twins are identical or fraternal twins?

DNA testing will give you the answer, so will a doctor.

How cool, didn’t they ask the doctor at the time of birth. Well, fraternal twins are the result of two different eggs being fertilized by two separate sperm and resulting in two completely distinct and separate pregnancies in the womb at the same time. The DNA profiles for fraternal twins will not be identical, and they are just like full-siblings that are born at different times. Identical twins are the result of one egg fertilized by a single sperm. The DNA profiles for identical twins will be identical. Additionally, the physical attributes of identical twins will also be similar. If you don’t want to get into the fuss of enquiring doctor, then just ask your cousin to take a zygosity test, below is some good test

This is something the doctor should have told your cousin. When two eggs are independently fertilized by two different sperm cells, fraternal twins result. When one egg is fertilized by one sperm and then the egg divides into two seperate embryos. Typically identical twins are in the same sac and fraternal twins are in seperate sacs. She should consult her doctor and the peditrician to see what tests can be done...
Good Luck

If they look identical, DNA testing will tell you for sure. I know a pair of twins who look a LOT alike, but they are not identical. You can't tell from the naked eye, though.

Fratermal twins will develop differences over time. My two daughters (not twins) looked alike in their baby photos -- you can't tell them apart without looking at the date of the photo. However, now that they are 3 & 4, they look very different.

Identical twins are often contained in the same sac during pregnancy, where fraternal twins each have their own sac. Did they have one or two sacs? That is usually a good indicator as well.

hi, i'm pregnant with fraternal twins. all of it has to do with success and genes. I certainly have twin uncles and aunts and my husband has twin grandparents. curiously IVF (In vitro fertilisation) can advance the prospect of twins. stable success, desire this has helped.

You can do a blood test. A lady i work with has triplets and you can't tell them apart, but they've had a blood test done to find out which ones are identica and which one is fraternal.
hope that helps.
