I think they're moving in the only direction they can, for the time being. Dems gained a majority in the House. Unlike the Republicans, Democrats don't generally equate having the majority with having complete control. They'll actually attempt to form a consensus in both parties on important issues (what a concept). They're also trying to work with an Executive Branch that still seeks to exercise absolute authority and doesn't recognize the historical, Constitutional role of any other branch. Short of militarily storming and occupying the White House and putting Bush and Cheney in Guantanamo I don't see how the House or Senate could get Bush or Cheney's attention. Funny how Bush and his buddies can play "fourth Reich" for eight years and still be defended while the "do nothing" Congress can be attacked before they're in a position to exercise their power.

The dismally low approval ratings of our current Congress can be attributable to two things, one of which is the fact that the Democratic majority is too spineless to truly institute what the American people desire. The Democratic Party made a host of promises, the gist of which stated that we would get our troops out of the fiasco that is Iraq. Ultimately they have reneged on that promise all for political expediency.
Furthermore, they have completely ignored the issue of the day, which has recently been of the utmost controversy, that being the illegal immigration issue. They are so reticent to take a stand one way or another on this matter that it is frustrating the electorate. If they decide to get tough on illegal immigration, they abandon their minority base, if they refrain from implementing immigration reform they fail to seek the much-coveted conservative constituency which has been slowly disillusioned by the ineffectual and mendacious Republican Party.
In the final analysis we need a formidable third party that is intrepid enough not to succumb to politically convenient comprises, does not cater to special interests, and is willing to do what is best for this country.

While they share the majority of the blame, it is not just the democrats. There is to much polarization, bickering, and saying the other side is bad, bad, bad. The democrats used this to win congress but now have to stop.
Why are both parties doing this?
Maybe to distract people from thinking about being raped by Big Oil. How many representatives are talking about that?
MLB Steroids, (pass a law already)
Immigration Reform, (illegal is illegal, get on with it)
Global Warming, (real, but not really caused by man)
Alberto Gonzales, (no proof he did anything wrong, period)
Stem Cell Research, (Make Bush veto it, simple)
And on and on.....
Everyone should bust on their legislator to ream Big Oil. Most of their websites won't even allow you to mention it, talk about BS.

Polls don't lie, politicians do!! They (Pelosi and Reid) proclaimed that they will raise the ethics that was dragged through the mud by the Republicans for 12 years. Have they?
Reid's son ans son-in-law are now registered lobbyist and making more than a quarter of a million dollars a year; Pelosi is paying her son $200,000.00 through her campaign fund doing God knows what. Ethics in deed.

Everyone of those who have continually voted for this immigration bill, something that 80% of the American public is apposed to, is getting a lot of disapproval and it's rightfully deserved.
Every one of them deserve to be bounced out of office and I certainly hope that the voters NEVER forget. They are in office to represent us, not vote against the will of the people.
Has anyone looked into all of those who have voted for the Patriot Act? Has your representative knowingly voted to flush your constitutional rights down the toilet?
Time to vote these self-righteous, paid and bought for idiots, right out of office!!!!

These numbers are very low----they compare to when the republicans had controll----and they reflect the dissatisfaction of the people , primarily due to Congress not doing what they elected them for STOPPING this war
NOW which side of the aisle do you think is not going along with STOPPING the WAR
I rest my case

I just wish they would move in any direction. Very little actual legislation has come out of Congress this year. They need to stop with the non-binding resolutions and get back to work.
