I just heard a story about this.......

The man is (was) her high school track coach. Her parents tried to discourage her from the relationship, but say they eventually gave in and signed the permission form for her to marry him because they were afraid they'd lose her forever if they didn't.

Do you agree with what they did, or do you think they should have done things differently?

Normally, not knowing the situation, I would say NO WAY, but I know of one such case where I would counsel them both to wait until she is at least 19, preferably 21, depending on emotional maturity. If they still feel the same way and have been truly committed to each other's well-being for all that time, then yes, I could bless their union. As for the high school track coach, he should have focussed his amorous attentions on adult women or find another line of work - totally inappropriate behavior for him to let things get that far.

No way! She is a child and her parents shouldn't have given in to her. If they truly 'didn't want to lose her' they should have put their foot down instead of letting her make what will probably be the biggest mistake of her life.

Furthermore, I can't understand why a 16 year-old would WANT to be married let alone marry a 40 year-old! This is just absurd.

Not even for a minute would I consider that for my daughter. Her track coach would be in tons of trouble being involved with a under age child where I live. I would make sure he gets what he deserves.

Obviously not.
I mean compared to a 16 year old young woman to a 40 year old man...sounds creepy. They are 24 years apart. They could be old enough for the 40 year old to be the 16 year old's father.

NO!!!!! He is a PREDATOR -- straight PREDATOR -- and they should have PRESSED CHARGES for Statuatory Rape, Interference in Parental Custody, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor ... etc etc etc -- CALL The police every time this pervert came around the girl .. and INSISTED on charges being PRESSED and FILED and put his NASTY PREDATORY rear in jail where he belongs!

WOW ... NO!!! This is just NASTY -- and Predatory. HOPE he is NOT teaching or coaching or ever able to go back into the Schools to PREY on any child any more.

I agree. Age differences are not a problem, as long as both people are at least legal age. The 40 year old should know better....

No I don't agree with it..
The only way I could contemplate allowing it would be if he was extremely wealthy, close to death, and was a monk or priest that made a vow of chastity.. But even then I would have a very hard time with it..

Yes they should have done something differnce,16yrs boy or girl has to much to give and learn about life to be married and in the long run {and I hope this does not happen} they will break up and she/or he will be mad at thier parents.

Hellno I wouldn't. That story comes from my state...North Carolina. Yay - something else to be embarrassed about. From what I understand, the parents reluctantly signed an agreement allowing her to marry. Why did they do that??
