I get a 3 hour break in between. Should I nap or just stay up? This really bites...

huh, I thought that legally they couldnt make you work 24 hours... Something like 16 hours, yes but then an 8 hour break before you work again.

Any way, many jobs have different requirements. I would say take a nap for the three hours, you wont get any REM sleep but you'll be able to concentrate better than going straight out. If possible, do 16 hours straight, take the 3 hour break/nap and then finish up the last 5. And trust me that last 5 will be a struggle. Just make sure to give yourself 30 minutes to wake up, shower if facilities are there, eat, arm with coffee etc.
This way you wont zombie back to work were something can go wrong while zoning.

Have to add something:

About 10 years ago, they did a test on a bunch of college students and made them stay up 72 hours straight, some starting this with 4 hours sleep, some 8, others longer.

As the days continues, it was proven that physical activity was capable BUT mentally you shut down the first to crash was the 4 hours and the second crasher were the ones with more than 8 hours cause they were not used to sleeping that much. And AFTER the 72 hours of this they made them all sleep for 8 hours and tested them again, all were back mentally and physically well rested. The recommendations for sleeping all day before IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. In fact, it could make you worse. Just get a good solid 8 hours when you normally sleep, and nap at least 2 hours (even 30 mins. is beneficial) of the 3 hours you have for break, and you'll be just fine.

Stay up. I used to work 24 hour shifts before (by choice) and I'd drink lots of coffee, eat meals and try to stay off my feet as much as possible. The longest shift I worked was 28 hours. Honestly, it took me a few years of occasionally working 13-18 hour shifts to prepare for a 24hr+ shift. If I took a nap in the middle, I'd totally crash and not be able to wake up. Only nap if you are the kind of person that can wake up after a short nap, I know I can't.

Have something to eat and take a nap on your break. Wow that really does bite to have to work 24 hours.
