This is a tough Question just because baseball movies come out ever other year it would seem. I am a big fan of "Rookie of the Year" just because I'm a Cubs fan and Gary Busey is a crazy dude. Most people should say Major League (and if anyone says "Major League 3: Back to the Minors", hit them) or Bull Durham. More dramatic baseball movies would include "the Natural", "The Babe", "Eight Men Out"... the list goes on. We all know that "Field of Dreams" was an Oscar movie, but I would have to go with Major League just because as a baseball movie, it led to Necessary Roughness (football movie) as well as the Hot Shots trilogy... In Short Major League was the Cadyshack of Baseball.

The Natural is considered to be the best baseball movie ever, and there is a million reasons why I agree. Redford's performance is amazing. He threw himself into the role, going so far as to take lessons from real players. The Natural plays on the near mythic/mystic aspect of the game. It shows more than any other movie the reason why baseball is the national past-time.

NO contest Bull Durham. That movie changed how everyone looked at Baseball from that point on!

"Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days."

Eight Men Out, story of the 1919 Black Sox. An all star cast, (John Cusack, D.B. Sweeney, Charlie Sheen, Studs Turkel, among others), showed life in 1919 with passion, humor, and accuracy.
