If you have 2 different speeds of RAM the faster RAM will be lowered down to the level of the slower RAM, So i suggest going with one the same speed you have now.. Crucial is a good trustable site so I would go with what they tell you.

If you have your owners manuals for the laptop it should tell you there. If you don't have the mauals you can look it up online. Go to search and put in the brand of laptop and model number and the word manual and see if you can find the manual. You can also search ram compasity for the laptop you have.

Well, you did not mentioned what BRAND or MODEL your laptop is. But, you can try checking to the laptop manufacturer if you can upgrade to that amount of RAM. Like Dell, Toshiba, Sony, IBM, etc.

theres 2 considerations to this questions.
First, go to a Ram website -- crucials a good one.
See the capacity your mother board has.
2nd - determine how much RAM you have, and how its split up.
Alot of companies will put 2 512RAM sticks instead of (1) GB stick, just to get away with cutting cost.
this will determine if you need to buy 2 larger 1GB sticks if your current system has (1) GB but using (2) 512 sticks
Then forget about going to best buy, circuit city, compusa for your components -- unless you have the money to burn or unles theres a great sale and you dont mind rebate checks (waiting for them)
Go to places like newegg.com
or pricewatch.com and get your RAM there.
That will save you tons of money.
Only someone who doesnt know anything about ocmputers goes to best buy and places like that to waste their money.

I'm assuming the laptop is relatively new & isn't something bought back in 2000.
check your manual. as a rule of thumb, laptops are limited to 2GB, so buy that pair of 1GB sticks & max it out.
