I don't think they told him not to take the job. And I always figured that they moved Dan Mattingly to the bench coach this year, because he was going to be the next manager, but after Girardi turned down the job in Baltimore, it got me thinking that maybe he's hoping to be the next manager of the Yankees. I really don't know what is going on here, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Best of luck to Girardi.

Giradi simply didnt want to go to the Orioles because the owner is eerily simliar to Jeff Loria of the Marlins. A stingy preson who wont spend money on talent. Obviously Giradi has already in 1 year proven he can still do something with a team like that, but why would he want to when he can get a job from a team with money and the willingnes to spend it. If he wanted to stay in the boat he was in he would have taken the Nationals job.
I don't believe he will be the next Yankees manager, though the Cardinals look like they may be looking to finally replace long time Tony Larussa as well, so that does also become an option. The big thing for Giradi is family as he has stated. This is why i believe the Cubs are his top choice as he lives in the area. Though with Ozzie's club playing poorly the other side of town is looking just as open.

I think that Girardi is hoping for that but I also think he did not want to take over a sinking ship with a horrible owner again! I thought that Mattingly would get a shot at the job but Girardi may be the better option. I think Girardi is waiting for one fo the premiere openings liek the Yankees or Cardinals.

Probably not. It seems as if the Boss is grooming Don Mattingly for the job. Girardi has stated several times his dream job it to manage the Cubs, where he played most of his career.

Do not think so. Girardi has expresssed interest in going to the Cubs in a few years. That is his "ideal" job, he said.
I think that the Yankees are honing Don Mattingly. I would bet my Red Sox cap on it...........

I'm very certain that when Torre steps down, Mattingly will be the new manager. They have been grooming him for the job for years. Don bleeds Yankee baseball.

Pretty please.
That's what I think happened. George talked to Joe and told him he's in line for the Manager's position and not to take the Orioles job.
