Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is a greatest batsman the game of cricket ever seen. He was rated by Wisden (2002) as the second greatest Test batsman ever after Sir Don Bradman. Wisden also rated him as the greatest ever ODI batsman.
He made his international debut in 1989 and holds several batting records in both Test Cricket and ODI Cricket, some of which will remain unbroken for the years to come. He
is the only Indian cricketer to receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, India's highest sporting honour, which he received for his performance in 1997-1998.
He is receipent of the following awards:
1994: Arjuna Award
1997: Wisden Cricketer of the Year
1997/98: Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna[51]
1999: Padma Shri - India's civilian medal of recognition
He has received the following Media recognition:
1) In August of 2003, he was voted as the "Greatest Sportsman" of the country in the sport personalities category in the Best of India poll conducted by Zee News.
2) In November 2006, Time magazine named him as one of the Asian Heroes.
3) The current India Poised campaign run by The Times of India has nominated him as the Face of New India next to the likes of Amartya Sen and Mahatma Gandhi among others.
Sachin Tendulkar has set many records. Some of the records created by hikm, which will remain unbroken for years together are as follows:
1) Most Centuries in Test and ODI.
2) Most runs in ODI.
3) He has scored 5 test centuries before he reached 20 years of age, which is a world record.
