I will ask two questions a then answer yours.
What are self help books?
Most are simply the opinions of the authors and are hardly ever based upon reasonable scientific study or research of a true expert in the field that the opinions of the author gives. In almost every single self help book out, there is a disclaimer that not all of the material within the book will be correct or even appropriate for everyone.
What is a medical condition?
They are recongnized problems that the human being will at one point or another contact in his life that requires treatment of one kind or another. Most conditions are treatable others are not. The body can heal itself from most problems that it encounters.
Now for your question.
Self help books as I said are the result of the authors opinion. Being cured implies a condtion that requires treatment. Unless the person writing the self help book is an expert in the field, be it medicine, psychology, dentistry (and I do not recommend ANY of the self help dentistry books), and the list goes on and on, then you are depending upon a person you don't know to give you self help direction which may or may not be right for you.
Cured??? What is to cure? Pimples of a complextion conconcise youth? Irratible bowel syndrome? Overweight? All of these things should be undertaken with the personal guidance of a qualified expert, be they a doctor, a dietitian, a dermatologist etc.
For the amount of money spent on self help books and quack cures and funny braclets, or what ever, a person could have paid for medical insurance that would just about cure everything and have money left overy.
Personal experience, My mother has spent 10's of thousands of dollars on all types of self help books. They are stacked up all over the garage, the three bedrooms and shelves in the hallways. She is 95 years old and now dying. Have they helped? I don't know. Maybe Maybe not.
The only book she has ever bought that I thought was worth the money she paid was a book by Adale Davis title "Eat Right To Stay Fit" I have a copy of it myself. But I didn't buy it until 4 years ago.
Just some thoughts from an old foggy.

No they don't. Self-help books and other merchandise are nothing more than a marketing scam hell bent on preying on everyone of your insecurities so that you will fork over your money for psycho-babble.
If you really need help that badly ( not saying saying you in particular), find a good therapist or learn to deal with whatever the problem is on your own. Be creative and you may very well find a good coping skill without the B.S.

Most diseases are not cured even by doctors. Self help books explain in non medical language why a particular ailment is meant to stay.

Yes people do get cured. First you need to analyse understand and identify the problem. Then locate the right self help book, then read, understand and digest the book and then make an effort to implement the changes. Don loose hope, consult someone.

I too doubt whether self help books are that helpful. But they do give a number of insights to...........whatever you are interested in. Following them is your own choice and if they work out well........it is okay.
