So many people are quick to say Bush. They are either ignorant of history, or slept through the 70's.

Clearly, the Liberals and Democrats want Americans to forget about Carter's major debacle and hope they will vote for another Loser like him in the next election.
And he did all of this damage in only one term!

Approval ratings mean absolutely squat in terms of a president's actual effectiveness.
Need I remind anyone that when Abraham Lincoln was elected, half the country declared war on him? If we based it on popularity polls, some of the greats would be considered the worst.
Sorry, Carter gets the cake as, easily, the worst president we've ever had. No other president I can think of did physical harm to this country that have yet to be repaired.
Of course, for as much as people are yapping about Bush's 29-36% approval rating, I like how they neglect to point out that Congress, the most ethical Congress in history, headed by Democrats with a total of 0 major liberal bills passed, has a 9% approval rating.
Yes, Congress's approval rating is less than President Bush's. Way to go.

I would say that it would be Carter. He was a very weak president that did nothing to address the issues of the day and let other countries walk all over us. Inflation was high, gas was high, and nothing was done to project US strength when it came to dealing with terrorism. I believe Carter was the mold that led to the type of presidency that Clinton had. Carter paved the way for many of the problems that we face today.

You're very confused. You are conflating Nixon (evil turd), Carter (too good a Christian to have the ruthlessness needed, but still a great Prez) and Reagan (who probably had alzheimer's when he was elected, leaving GHB to run the country and the cocaine deals that characterized the Iran-Contra nonsense.
Carter did not win a Nobel prize, even though he is the one who deserved it.
You should apply for a job at the Ministry of Truth. They need people like you.

Yep, you got him pegged alright. The only thing I differ with you about is the time, I'd say the worst in 100 years.

I agree Carter was bad. Richard Nixon did not do us any favors, either.

Well, the question when I think about 'worst president' goes deeper than numbers. Sometimes Presidents are entirely responsible for things like gas prices and unemployment, and sometimes they aren't. I ask questions like- "Is this President acting with sound strategy?" "Is this President working for the good of the nation as a whole?" "Do I trust this President to make decisions?"
You can probably guess who I think is the worst then, which is sad commentary in and of itself.
