I see softwares where I search which claim they can trace where email are coming from or intercept them and know the destination. I also see programmes which claim to hack emails. Does all these really work that easy? Authorities trace emails like police, how are they able or is it so easy?

Well It is a bit easy to find the location of the city mostly. This is done by getting the IP of Sender(There is a option in mail clients like hotmail, yahoo, gmail etc through which you can see thej IP address of sender) than check this IP through IP Locator's (there are many free on internet) & through this you can know the location of email sender. You can easily do this yourself without any software to download. :)

For More Complicated tracing like to know the address of the sender you need some software or got a relative in police depart ;)

It is deadly easy to do, enough tracing information tidbits are inside a standard email packet either as part of IP wrapping or SMTP/email protocol.

There is a way she can find out, provided she knows how to do it. If she is computer smart, there is a section called Recent. She could type that in the search section of the computer and find out, also there is a thing called Temporary Internet Files that stores that information, despite the fact you've deleted the history.
