I was born & raisedin Kansas, which is a part of "Tornado Alley" here in the USA..I have survived many and seen many more..It is terrifying...I hope you have a basement and go to the SW corner if you can..or find a deep ditch to lay in,cover your head..Knowing how to survive them is the key to coping with them..=)

You know...... what's interesting is that for years here in Tennessee we would joke about NEVER living in a trailer park because inevitably THAT is where the tornados ALWAYS hit. Until April 16th 1998. It hit downtown Nashville. We were all in school..... actually letting out for the day. We had to get all of the parents out of their cars and we got all of the kids back inside of the school and we did the whole crouching tiger, hidden dragon thing. The thing was..... all of the kids KNEW this time it was real..... not just a drill. The sobs and wimpers and tears that were falling were heartbreaking. But we stayed strong and calmed everyone the best we could. Inside...... all I could think of were my two itty bitty girls that were in day care down the road. I sooooo wanted to be with them at that moment. I couldn't bare that I wasn't. I've never seen winds like that in my life..... the whole sky was just black.

When it was all over..... our school was thankfully spared.... but just up the road..... it was like mass distruction. You could see the path. HUGE 100 year old trees...... uprooted...... Skyscrapers still stood...... only windowless. A brick church.... collapsed. Bridges..... destroyed. It then went across the river and damaged the construction on the stadium being built for the new TItans football team. Then it just destroyed historic east Nashville.

The whole city was just stunned. You just weren't used to hearing about a tornado hitting a major city DURING work hours. The mayor called off work for all downtown businesses the next day and it was declared a clean up day. Wow... seeing a city pull together to help was amazing!

On a sidenote...... hours later I made it to my kids. It was adorable.... their teachers had them all in an art closet. *sigh* They were safe and thought they were merely playing hide and seek. I opened the door and my little girl shouted, "Oh mommy! You found me!"

After 2 hours at Taco Bell, and $56 later, the men's room looked like a tornado went through

I even have not at all experienced a tornado, basically a typhoon. It grow to be very frightening and we could no longer come exterior for some days. each little thing grow to be nailed down, and as quickly as we did come exterior, lots of the trees have been blown down.

Nope never seen one in my whole life. I only see them on t.v. But it all depends on where you live Marge. I hope you don't encounter one either. When my cousins went to South Dakota a few years ago there was a Tornado warning. The wind started picking up and almost carried one of my cousins away. Pretty scary.

No I have not experienced one yet, moved to Alabama nearly one year ago so I am sure in due time I will.
Lived in So. Ca. and went through the Northridge and Whittier earthquakes. I would rather do the earthquake thing to be honest.

I have seen 3, and it is VERY frightening. One touched down, the other 2 didn't. I have nightmares as well, as each summer gets worse

Yes, once and that was enough for me. Thank God it was a small one we were in our truck and it came down the road right over us,. But just pushed the truck backward a little.
