The German people - because of their actions and their ultra high nationalism building up to and during the war ?

I was on a site this week and alot of Germans were calling the English.. "Island Monkeys".. which I thought was a bit... like they haven't learnt their lessons.

gandamack2 - I'm not giving you a thumbs up or a thumbs down. England fought alone for 2 to 3 hard years against the Nazi's..... although I do agree with you that the USA knows how to fight... and that the German's can be awfully determined when they are given any sort of direction or orders to be so.

I'm sorry that you had to read such stuff on some website, I'm German and would never call the English "island monkeys" or say anything of that type. Sure there are people who haven't learnt their lessons. Sometimes I read and hear things that some people say that really shock me, from Germans as well as from people of other nationality, and particularly on the Internet you always find a lot of bigots. Anyway there's no need to be scared, these people have no chance to ever get any power again.

And you write that "the German's can be awfully determined when they are given any sort of direction or orders to be so". Yes many were that way in the world wars, but please don't think that this was an inherent trait of Germans. Blind obedience was valued in the militarized German society at that time and people were raised so. But especially as people are concious of where this led this has changed. I despise people who do something bad just because they are ordered to do so and can never accept that excuse of those who became guilty that they "had to follow orders".

You know sometimes I get scared of the history of my country and I have a feeling that German society in past was something very strange and like a very different country. So I know what you have in mind when you say that, but I hope you will understand that peoples are not static and homogeneous entities with certain character traits that all their members have and will always have.

No. The Germans are good people these days. War is not part of the national thinking anymore. As for the Island monkey thing. Well you call the french frogs and the Germans Krauts. It is just a little bit of banter that has no bigger meaning.

hahaha. this is great. just because they dislike the english doesn't mean they're going to start a war. the english call the germans krauts and the french frogs. if you oppress and humiliate a people, they are going to strike back, which is what started WW2 (and the only reason hitler rose to power in the first place). and what was the "lesson?" if you mean the "lesson" was to stop aggressive expansion, well then they have "learned" it. apparently, you think that because they don't particularly care for the english, that makes them a threat to world security, whcih would be really funny if it weren't so pathetically ignorant. right before we invaded and occupied iraq, many americans were very angry at the french, so by your "logic" they would have not learned their lesson either

There is no need to be scared of the Germans.I am German myself, and married to an english man.A few english people call the Germans "Krauts" and "Boxheads. But believe me,if you would ever come to Germany,we would make you very welcome. We realy do like british people over here.
By the way

Well they are a bit bloody late for the next war, they've realised that as we've drained eastern Europe of people of fighting age, it will be easier to conquer Europe and eventually fill in the channel tunnel. Only Roumania and Bulgaria to empty and then off they go rolling across the plains of Europe again.

Actually, I very fond of the Germans and regard them as friends.

Why be scared?

If a german attacks you, just leg it. They won't chase you because if they did, attacking you would not be efficient!

I'd like to add that altho the Americans like to believe they saved our ***, all they did was help clear up the mess. It was the British that fought long and hard and had the Nazi's on the backfoot before America even bothered get off their arses!

If you judge an entire nation of good people by one small group of racists then you will fall into the same type of thinking that got the Germans into so much trouble during WW2.
