No it's a mutilation that some people mistakenly believe is a good thing to do but all medical authorities now admit is totally unnecessary.

Using surgery to mutilate the genitals instead of washing in a modern western society makes no sense. Normal intact male genitals are, if anything, easier to wash than female ones and the same substance, smegma collects in the folds of both sorts.

Since its introduction into the west as an anti-masturbation measure in the 19th century, circumcision proponents have trotted out endlessly changing justifications for the procedure, as earlier ones are disproved. Most of these proposed reasons have later been proved to be based on flawed studies but the myths continue. Even if the claims for benefit were accepted the level of any protection from disease is so low as to be easily outweighed by the risks involved in the surgery. A few babies even die each year from circumcision complications and some lose their penis from necrotic infection. More common complications of infant circumcision, like skin bridges or too much skin removed, do not show up until much later in life. So the statistics do not include them in the complication rate. (A penis with a skin bridge is much harder to clean and causes major sexual difficulties.) However even on these artificially lowered statistics all the major medical authorities in the world now say that these risks outweigh the dubious benefits of routine infant circumcision.

Circumcision removes over half the skin of the penis (about 15 square inches or 40 square centimetres, in an adult) and it's not just simple skin. It's packed with nerve endings, special anatomical features like the ridged band and has a unique elastic gliding action, allowing it to slide on itself and act like lube. This action is what most males use to masturbate with except those who are cut so tightly that they have to use lube or just rub it dry. Of course the intact male has the option to use lube too if he wants to. During intercourse it acts like lube on entry and may act as a dam, preventing lubricating secretions escaping from the vagina. In one study women reported that sex with an intact partner was gentler and more satisfying since he doesn't have to thrust as hard to feel enough stimulation. Removing the foreskin turns the surface of the glans from an inner mucosal membrane to outside skin. Newly circumcised adults usually go through some weeks of intense discomfort as the glans is constantly exposed to rubbing on clothing, until it develops a thicker keratin layer and becomes less sensitive. A new study has shown real differences in fine touch sensitivity between circumcised and intact penises and that the most sensitive parts of the intact penis are those that would be removed by circumcision.

A few intact males have problems with tight foreskin but this is only a tiny proportion of intact males. The condition can now be almost always treated with simple stretching exercises, sometimes in combination with a steroid cream that speeds up the process. However doctors who do not value the preservation of the foreskin often still trot out circumcision as a first-option treatment in the US and even some other countries.

I myself am circumcised. I have hated it ever since as a 12 year old I saw a mate masturbating with a foreskin and realised a little of what I had lost. Many men resent being circumcised, some so much that they stretch to try and regain some of their lost foreskin's function. They can never recover all the complex anatomy and lost nerve endings though. Infant circumcision is a violation of a man's right to intact genitals and I will never forgive my parents and the medical profession for doing it to me.

It's not necessary. There were many news articles a few days ago that now show that circumcision is becoming a lot less popular. In fact, the USA is among very few developed nations doing it (yet we have the highest HIV/AIDS rates) but rates are now as low as 14% in some states.

In addition, studies (including a few new ones) have proven the belief that circumcision harms sensitivity and pleasure, along with masturbation (oddly enough that's how it was promoted in the USA since masturbation was once bad).

Keeping clean shouldn't be an issue (I'm uncircumcised and it isn't, you just pull back and rub the head, which takes 5 to 10 seconds and feels good). In addition, when hard/erect they both look very alike.

You can see the following link for the statistics, studies, and discover circumcision benefit myths, such as that it reduces penile cancer and so on.

No. Not necessary, not desirable.

ADVANTAGES OF BEING INTACT:
--Circumcision cuts WAY down on sexual enjoyment for the man due to loss of nerve-rich foreskin. A new study proves conclusively, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that circumcision decreases sensitivity for the man. http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1464-410X.2006.06685.x
--Getting cut causes the glans (head) to develop a keratinized layer to protect from rubbing on clothing, further cutting sensation. Many cut men are unable to ejaculate during intercourse and have to finish by hand. Intact men can go all the way.
--nine out of ten women who have had both prefer intact penises: http://www.healthcentral.com/drdean/408/60750.html That's really pretty definitive.
--foreskin makes masturbation more fun - and better for your partner to play with.
--Circumcision hurts -- a lot -- when it's done, even if you are too young to remember it. Have a look at http://www.cirp.org/library/procedure/plastibell/ -- is this any way to welcome a child into the world?
--Circumcision, like other surgery, has a chance of complications. Each year a few baby boys have to have their entire penises amputated and undergo surgery to make them into fake girls. And a few die.

ADVANTAGES OF BEING CUT: Circumcision has NO advantages that are not fictional or only relevant in a few areas
--You can be just as clean if you are uncircumcised. Wash. It's THAT simple. Even if you're cut, you still need to wash.
-- If you're sleeping around, you need to use condoms regardless or you will get diseases.
--Some studies have shown a lower rate of cancer of the penis in cut guys, but this cancer is so rare that it's hard to get a good statistical sample. More boys/men die each year from botched circumcisions than from cancer of the penis.
--The US has the highest circumcision rate in the developed world and also the highest AIDS rate in that group. http://www.circinfo.org/hiv.html

As for the religious argument, many religious Jews are now opting for a bloodless dedication ceremony for their babies instead of a bris. And Christians are told in the Bible that circumcision is NOT necessary. Muslims usually circumcise.

All cons... no pros... don't do it or have it done to your child.

The foreskin is a natural defense put there by nature to protect the penis. It doesn't interfere with normal functioning or cleanliness if you wash with any regularity.

Removing it can cause the skin to have micro-scarring which prevents it from stretching and can actually deform the penis in rare cases. Having it done as an adult is excruciating and can lead to massive infections as it heals very slowly.

About 20 years ago, doctors started realizing that the foreskin was really not one of nature's little oversights, but old attitudes have been slow to change. Google the latest research and judge for yourself, but I would stick with the turtleneck and avoid the crew-neck...

Circumcision was actually popularised by John Harvey Kellogg (maker of Kellogg's Cornflakes) as a way to stop masturbation! He said it stopped masturbation as the penis became less sensitive and there was no foreskin to help the penis glide, thus no pleasure.

In the ultra-religious days, boys were then circumcised as masturbation was seen as a sin. People still circumcise in America, although now they use cleanliness as an excuse instead!

It's all rubbish though - circumcision is completely unnecessary.

It can be come necessary if you can not retract your foreskin. This doesn't happen often as long as you keep it clean. Although they have started circumcising males in places with high AIDS rates because it cuts back on the chances of getting infected because it doesn't get trapped in the foreskin. Do what ever you feel is best for you

there is no good thing about being cut. your penis is less sensitive, have less skin to enjoy sex with. Most are shorter that natural men. you need lube when you masturbate.

Good thing about being natural. feels more sensitive, looks natural, better to masturbate with, cleaner (only need to was mine once a day), usually bigger than cut men. better for the woman during sex.

Circumcision is not necessary, but I would recommend it. There are certain physicians that are dead set against it, but I highly recommend it for hygeine purposes. A person who is uncircumcised is more prone to infection, rupture of the foreskin, and fungal diseases. Hygenically speaking, having a circumcised penis is much more convenient.
