it seems they both lost a step.

I heard Jason Stark of ESPN talking about how Jones didn't get to as many balls as he used to. The Ulitmate Zone Rating (developed by Mitchel Lichtman) clearly shows the diminished range of Jones. That is why Stark in his book selected Jones as the most "overrated center fielder of all time".

Caberra is ranked dead last defensively of all third baseman and seems destined for a move to DH for the Red Sox or Yankees when his time with the Marlins is finished. Papi jr.?

It's obvious that the two of them haven't missed a meal in quite some time, but have they lost a step because of it, I don't think so. Cabrera in 2006, 339-26-114 and half way through this year 328-16-52. Jones in 2006, 262-41-129 and this year 202-11-42. Jones has never been an outstanding contact hitter and has had months at a time in the past when he isn't hitting. However, I do believe they both have to be careful about their added weight because it could give them problems and affect their games as they get older.

Jones lost 20 pounds in the off-season, but seem to have lost a lot of power as well as a decent swing. His strikeout rate and pop-out rate have increased by quite a bit and his power numbers have him finishing the season at a projected 25 HR. Miguel seems to be okay with how he his...but he's real young. In a few years or so, he just might have to start plaing some 1st base or DH in the AL. We'll see what happens, but that guy is showing no signs of slowing down. He is going to be a superstar, if he's not considered one already.

I'd worry more about Jones than Cabrera, simply because the positions they play. Jones has to cover ground in centerfield, and even though he gets the best break on fly balls of any player to EVER play the game, he can't get to a lot of balls that he used to because of the weight problem. His hitting this year has suffered also, so you may be on to something.
Miggy just bashes the hell out of the ball, so at this point I'd say it's not a problem, but if he keeps growing, his bat could slow down like what happened to Frank Thomas.

Andruw isn't any fatter than he has been in years past. His swing looks like crap and he's still swinging at anything that doesn't hit him. Miguel has really put on a lot of weight since his rookie year though.
