Ok - I understand this topic now. It has to do with taxes. As in, only people that use roads sould pay for them, only people that have children at school should pay taxes that go into schools etc.

User taxes often rest on sound rational. Like "people that use roads should pay for them". Each case of road tax of course has to be evaluated on its merits.
The merits of a user tax are more complicated when considered on a broad bases. For example,
Taxes to support the schools system.
The benefits of the school system is not confined to the parents of the school children. Society as a whole benefits from having educated people and therefore would be called to contribute to the support of the school system.

One additional related thought here.
When considering the costs of the subway system in New York, some people would say, "New York should not be in the subway business".
The observation one would immediately make is that, Yes, New York is not in the subway business but it is in the transportation business and more broadly, New York is in the quality of life for New Yorkers business.

Well as far as roads go the Tax on Gas is actually a road usage tax.

As far as other things a better way to do it is the way it was done in the past. Government out except for possibly the mandate that there need to be schools and let local communities and government handle how it is paid for.

Constitutionally, the tax should only be on imported goods and or a equally proportion per-ca-pita tax.

An example of this is if the constitutional tax of $10.00 per month per working person 18 and older were collected it would produce more revenue for the federal government then the current system.

Of course no one would get a tax return, the IRS could be an 18th of what it is.

etc etc

But in the spirit of the question would that mean that the only people who pay tax to welfare or food stamps would be those who use them.

or those who receive Social Security Income or want it in old age would pay and us who don't want we don't have to pay.

It is the foundation of those who call for the "Fair Tax" which is a federal sells tax on "new goods and services" at the "consumer level"

thanks for letting me rant

I suppose then, that the military should only be run according to how much the users pay.
Naw. we, above all, are a society, a nation etc. As such we work together in all necessary aspects of American rights and freedoms.

Sorry. Won't work because we are a group of citizens and are part of a whole. We all get something and we all give something. Peace

Users should pay because they benefit from the activity.
