I've watched soaps for over 40 years. There was a time when they were "high drama" - over the top, but still believable and enjoyable. ABC used to have a theme "Love in the Afternoon" and that's what they were - about marriages, girl friends, cheating, fighting and making up. Now GH has become a lite version of the Sopranos; AMC goes through writers like water through fishnet stocking because they all suck; Y&R is still pretty good but will drag a storyline out for three years. One major problem is that the suits at the networks seem to have taken over what the storylines are and they don't even watch their own shows. They certainly don't read what fans write. As a result, the entire genre has lost its fun and its flavor, and is pretty much getting unwatchable. And for all you who say I'm stupid to watch soaps, get over yourself. I have a 145 IQ and graduated from high school at 15. Can you match?

Hilarious. The women where I work watch All My Children everyday at lunch. They get sooo into it, and there is NO talking almost unless in commercial. Most of them just kind of chuckle though, but one takes it sooo seriously. When something happens, is's "oh my God, can you imagine? How could she do that to him! Oh, he deserves much better!" Etc. Etc. Etc. Or when Greenly (sp) does something "oh, I just can't stand her." Like it's real. When they are talking about the "blackout" and what happened, I just about start laughing out loud. It's entertaining, but in a funny way, because it's so "out there".

I enjoy them. I love to watch and see what all the dysfunctional families are involved in. Most of it lately is on the boring side, but if the writers get their acts together, it'll get better. I like to see them get back to love stories and who's cheating on who and move away from the explosions, fires, whatever. Seeing someone try to explain the "lie" she just told is hilarious. I'm referring to the old Lindsay from OLTL. She can be so funny and shallow.

They're fun no matter what anyone says. To each his own. But I don't understand what your IQ has to do with whether or not you watch soaps. Some take it too far.

They are entertaining, but not too realistic. That is why I like the Y&R,it's the most realistic soap out of them all.

I only watch Y&R, and I love the storylines, but they drag them out to long.
