what formula?

or you mean u need to solve for n?

here it is:

y = 9^(n+1)

log y = log 9^ (n+1)

use the rules in logarithm...

log y = (n+1) log 9

(log y)/(log 9) = n+1

[log (y-9)]-1 = n

then the answer is n = -1+log (y-9)

This is a formula - what's the problem?

If you want a formula for n in terms of y, then we have
y-1 = 9^n
=> n = log_9 (y-1)
where log_9 means log base 9.

Well, you have an equation already.

What formula do you need?
