fanella, you must be new to both California and grape growing. Here's some help:
Summer rain in CA is usually around 1 - 2 days, max. You need irrigation water there. For grapes, you must NOT use overhead watering, or later day watering.
Grapes are susceptible to molds, so the water must stay on the ground, not on the leaves. Water in the morning so your plants have water when it gets hot. By the time it gets hot, it's already too late. Do not water after 6pm, again for prevention of mold. If a rose planted near-by has mold or fungus, spray them both with fungicide (the nursery will help you select the correct one if you take some leaves to the nursery with you.) Roses are the only plant that will get fungi before grapes will, so you should plant one at the end of each row of grapes.
So, give the prayer beads to the grapes while you lay the hoses out. They'll be happy you did.
