As I got older and more sure of myself, yes. But as a young man, I unrealistically thought that we could still remain friends and tried to get us back to that basis. It found that it never really worked out, and I grew up a lot by 16 or so. Being the one who said goodbye didn't always make me feel all that great either. Never being a guy for casual relationships, I actually cared about the girls I dated and I felt really bad breaking up - no matter who did it. I tried to be as kind and respectful as possible when saying goodbye.

Yes, I have been. It is sad, but I get a bit claustrophobic in many relationships and feel like I need to leave.
