I like to look at the success of the local universities in football to see if a community is likely to be able to support an NFL team. So: Portland, no, Oregon can barely support the Ducks and Beavers, and their stadiums together only seat 80,000. So: Las Vegas, no, UNLV sells out constantly for basketball, but their football team has problems filling Sam Boyd Stadium for BCS schools, much less the WAC, and Boyd Stadium only seats 36,000 for football.
Utah? They probably could. BYU and Utah both have near NFL quality stadiums, and regularly sell them out. So there seems to be a much stronger football fan base than in Portland or Vegas. But if they don't have a dome, I don't know how much fun it would be to play in Salt Lake in December....
Baseball in Utah? Baseball is more like basketball because there are lots of regular season games, and the Jazz are very successful in Salt Lake. And they would have a pretty large area to draw fans from. So, I think baseball might work there as well.

I think that an NFL or an MLB team would be successful in Utah. You don't have to have a large population to have a lot of fans. Look at teams like the University of Nebraska. Nebraska's got a low population, but they sell out every game. All I'm saying is that if your team is good enough, people will come.

I think it would be. They are very loyal to the Jazz. There is an arena football team (the Blaze) that is attracting a very large following and selling out thier games already so football would be a good venture for Utah.
Not as sure about baseball although I believe the semi major league team they have enjoys a pretty good following.
Theres a lot of money to be had in Utah, look at how much money Mitt Romney is able to raise there for his presidentail campaign.

personally, i loathe Utah. But, i do have family there, and they are the biggest football fans around. From what they tell me, it's kind of like L.A... Everyone cheers for a different team. To put a team there, they would not only face the problems of a small market, but also dividing fans. The only time people would go to a game is to see their team pummel the cute expansion Utah "whatevers".. However, if it was only a matter of uneven teams in the League, that would be easy. Throw a team in LA finally! Oh, and sorry, there will never be a pro team of any sort in Las Vegas.. well maybe hockey or soccer. Wait, are those pro sports? I can't ever remember seeing them on tv...

Why not. But what franchise would be relocating there. None are in trouble right now.
Also has Utah hosted any preseason games. That would be an important element to get the NFL interested in the city

NFL will never happen in Utah. NFL games are played on Sunday's and the predominant religion (LDS) which is also the majority of the population in Utah, does not believe in doing anything on Sunday other than going to church.

first off the nba is completely different from the nfl so it does not count if the utah jazz did good.... 2 it depends on who they have and it would force the nfl to create another team so ther wouldnt b a odd number of teams. it would create a lot of trouble and it would b overcrowded

Population problems, though Salt Lake City is pretty big. Perhaps big enough for MLB, but it is really doubtful that the people there would agree to pay for a NFL team. Though, they do have their Sundays free.
