you have learned to except the things you can not change.

We haven't been beaten, we have grown up. We have realized that no matter how much we scream and shout and bang our heads, all that really happens is we get a head ache (and whiplash if you were a pre-Bruce Maiden fan). Caring about something and speaking out isn't enough. MLK talked about his dream however, he didn't stop and wait for someone to listen, he did things to make it happen. The problem is when we are young we tend to confuse angst (for monetary gain) with true conviction. My desire for change has not diminished but, I have become wiser as to the quality of the character of the person espousing the message.

In a way, you've been beaten. You probably realise that you can't change the world, and that in order to survive you have to fit the mold.
Another way of looking at it is that, as you get older you get less tolerant. You learn to ignore things because they're not worth the energy, so by not paying attention to those things you stay calmer.

Well, when we are young, we are in a hurry to grow up, to live, to do "everything." As we start to actually age, we realize that at the end, all there is is death. so we start to calm down. Who wants to reach the end running? NO seriously, we tend to realize that running through life only causes us to miss it. When I was young, I recall Iron Maiden, and Black Sabbath, and so many more awesome bands. I still love that music, however, I think that I have let go of the fervor and now can sit back and appreciate it more, as well as appreciate the pace of my life. I think. But I do miss "rocking out!"

For the same reason you stop crying about everything in the transition from little child to age of reason. As a child you cry about thilngs, as you get older you get angry and rebellious about things, then as you get even older you just become opinonated on things and are able to stick to your guns.
I would say it is a combination of your hormones calming down along with an increase in your harmony with the world and understanding of it. Plus, people just have less energy to waste, and start caring less about what other people think.

Age tends to favor reason more than passion, because passion takes energy, and often, inexperience. As you age you realize that listening to loud music and being mad at the world is usually not a productive way to change it in your favor. You start to rationalize, and think about how you can work within the system to get what you want.

Maybe when you were younger you wanted to change the world in your own way, as a teen you had just discovered that now you had a chance to do what you wanted.
Iron Maiden was your battlecry, you connected to it because its energy reflected your feelings towards how ****** up the world can be.
But now, since you are older, years have turned to wisdom, and you have discovered that while you still want things your way, a much more calm approach is a much more effective and easy way to handle problems.
Possibly.

ahhhh...i don't know about you, but the only time i am calmer is when i take time to reflect on how to better handle situations and circumstances given the maturity level i am at right now, with all i have learned so far....i used to be ca-razy, that had alot to do with not knowing how to deal....although, i must say, that i still get crazy sometimes...and the only thing that prevents me from seriously "breaking the law" is having kids and not wanting to have them taken away or even being away from them to spend a night in jail or whatever...when they are adults, it is likely that i might be running from some cops...after doing something that i believe in.....me, apathetic, NEVER.....my dad grew very apathetic in his years...it is such a waste.....i am nearly thirty and see myself(in the future) as an old biddy doing unimaginable things.

With new experience, comes new realization. As you grow, you start to pick up on things you didn't know before. You're calmness comes from the tolerance you build for the people around you and the world its self.
You're growing up, and it means you're going to start choosing your battles instead of being angry about every single thing. Lifes only so long, you know.

Not beaten, just wiser. When we are young I think we want things to be greater than they really are, and when we get older and more experienced we see that some things cannot be changed, no matter what we do. We didn't give up, we just got smarter.

I laughed so hard at your beaten line!! So sweet!
In reality, you can now see both sides of the story and are not as narrow minded with things being either black or white. Also, you see the bigger picture and you also become focused on real things not the popculture fads. We also have the benefit of more experience and greater communication skills.
