I'm confused. And all guides I see online are outdated, not accounting for the new games like Twilight Princess. How do they all fit together?

See, the problem with the Legend of Zelda games is that the official road map of continuity has never been revealed to anyone that is not making the games. The creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, has stated that there is an official game bible that states how they fit together, and someday they will reveal it, but right now they have not.

Some games fit together easily, and some not so much.

The first Legend of Zelda's Link is the star of the second Legend of Zelda: Adventures of Link. However, the Zelda he is rescuing is not the same Zelda from the first Game.

Then, it is a different Link and Zelda that star in Link to the Past. At the time, it seemed that Link's Awakening was the sequel to this game, but it is hard to say.

Ocarina of Time may be the first game in the series, but now there is some debate if Minish Cap is the first since there is no mention of the Master Sword or Gannon in this game, but it is the first the the Four Sword is crafted.

There is a lot of debate on this whole series. Ocarina of Time spawned the fan theory of the time travel element of Link at the end of the game to create 2 universes.

When Link goes back in time, the future he left behind has a Zelda in a world that needs to recover from what Gannon had done. It is believed this world eventually leads into Wind Waker, after several Hundreds of Years as it makes mention of the Hero of Time. The direct sequel to Wind Waker is Phantom Hourglass, as Tetra and Link from Wind Waker star in that game as well.

Then, since Link was sent back in time, it is believed he warns Zelda and the King in the Past, who stop Gannondorf from rising to power. This then would lead into Majora's Mask and several Hundred Years Later, we would have the events of Twilight Princess.

There are many different opinions on where the Oracle Games fit. Since they do not happen in Hyrule, they could foreseeable happen after any of the other Zelda games that have Gannon being defeated. Since Twinrova exist in the game, it is possible that they may occur after Ocarina of Time, perhaps after Majora's Mask.

The most interesting aspect of not giving anyone a clear map of how the games fit together? It leaves room for everyone to debate and discuss how they feel the games fit together, which is the best advertisement for the game franchise. The other thing it allows for, is new games to be introduced without strictly following the same exact map and formula for Hyrule and Link each time.

According to this website its says

" Ocarina of Time is the first story, then the original Legend of Zelda, then Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and finally A Link to the Past. It's not very clear where Link's Awakening fits in--it could be anytime after Ocarina of Time. "

This is The Miyamoto Order so yeah. But It just really has to do with the story itself about all the zeldas, like the three goddesses creating Hyrule and leaving behind the Sacred Triforce. Then the other ones just have kinda of a heir or an older/younger version of Link. All are heros of something or another ie Hero of Time (Ocarina of Time) Hero of Twilight (Twilight Princess) and all that. Im really into them so I know alot about the stroy and I pretty much grew up playing all of them. But the Link in Twilight just is pretty much a descendant or an heir to the "Hero of Time" aka the Link in OoT... hope this helps, anyone can email me to ask me more about it.

Uhhhh.............. Well really they do and they don't. Some games do fit together easily. The first two happen one after another. Ocarina of time and majora's mask are together. We know Twilight princess is after OoT but that's only what Aonuma says..... and Wind Waker comes right before phantom hourglass. And they're after twilight princess, maybe. There really is no set timeline that everyone can agree on unfotunately. So your question is literally a pandora's box.

To be honest, they really don't. In terms of storyline, they all share the common elements like Link, Zelda, Hyrule, Death Mountain, Zoras, Gorons, etc. However, the story changes everytime so each time you play a different zelda game don't expect it to continue from where it last left off. Assume that Zelda and Link never met and Link is still the clueless little orphan that he always is.

I would say they are different heroes.
Everyone speculates the Swordsman in Twilight Princess is the Hero of Time, in other words, the Link of Ocarina of Time.
We know that Twilight Princess happens a long time after OoT and before Wind Waker.
Majora's mask is related to OoT since they have the same hero.

Ok, I once saw this video on gametrailers.com that tried to explain all of it. Just go there a search for zelda if you want to see it...its like a two or three part thing. But honestly, after watching it, it seems like they're just trying really hard to make it connect but it really doesn't. Honestly, zelda is not a very good story game but a freakin' badass adventure game. Each game is it's own thing, and well, if Nintendo tries to connect the stories so be it, I just think it's too forced and superficial. Play final fantasy for some good stories :)!

None of the Legend of Zelda games have anything to do with eachother. Other than they have a few of the same characters (such as Link, Zelda, and Epona(Epona doesn't exist in a few of them)), the same species, and the basic main objective which is usually to save Princess Zelda.

the sport, in that customary, isn't stressful. yet, in case you will do the a hundred Gold skulltual element quest, issues can get complicated. you will possibly be able to easily want 50 of the spiders to get a coronary heart piece, so which you would be able to end there (which i decide for to advise) the sport isn't stressful. in simple terms the dungeons could be complicated to navigate (in my case I had hassle with the woodland Temple, even with the reality that that is meant to be common). Epona is optionally available, yet to get the max volume of arrows and an Empty Bottle, you like Epona. I in no way performed it beforehand till I have been given my 3DS, and that i did o.k. with it. in case you're good at navigation, this sport could be extremely common.
