What is Jet Dry made of, is it safe to use over time?

I'm not sure what Jet Dry is made of..... I don't use it... I find a regular cleaning of my dishwasher is all I need to keep spots away... Jet Dry seems expensive/unecessary. I use unsweetened/sweetened drink mixes and run my dishwasher on an empty cycle once a month to clean any gunk build-up. It's cheap and it works...
