im being deployed min july for six months...i just got back from a deployment less then two months ago. i was having a hard time with the new deployment i received not wanting to leave my family again so soon..however i know its for the best and i dont have that much more in the marines. i want to do something great for my family, then something very special for my wife. she is a wonderful women and my rock in life..going on a trip to another state is out of the question due to training i have to attend. we are stationed in cali. what would you want if you were in my wife shoes. i have a few ideas but its nice to hear what others have to say.
i was thinking of taking her to her to napa valley, their we would enjoy all the great activities they have to offer. then the second to last day of our stay i was going to have our kids along with our closest family members join us to re-new our vows. we will be married 13 years on the 21st of july.

That sounds like a wonderful idea, but make sure you write your own vows, expressing to her how she has made you strong, and she is the most important person in your life. She will feel so special knowing that you openly expressed your feelings to her and those close to you and she will cherish them while you are deployed. And good luck out there. Hoo-Rah

Aww I think that it so sweet! God, I love Marines! (my husband is one.) I defiantly think you should do that. This is just another thing you could do to top it off. It's not my idea, I heard it on the radio. But none the less I think your kids might like this. I don't know they might be too old. But you can decide...Get a tape recorder and record yourself reading them their favorite bedtime stories. But the tapes in a box and tell your wife not to open it until the first night you are gone and leave a note in the box telling her to play the tapes for your kids every night while you're away. It's a really good way for you to stay in your childrens' routine while your away. And they get to hear your voice every night. Plus you'll earn major points with your wife. Best of luck to you and stay safe wherever you're going. My thoughts are with all of you!

That is a wonderful idea, If you want to add to the vow renewal then you could make sure that the kids are dressed up for it and you wear your dress uniform. If you know that she can still wear her wedding dress then you could have someone bring it for her to wear. If she can't fit in it then I would have her bring a nice dress or you could suprize her with a beautiful new dress.
make sure someone takes a bunch of pictures for you. They will be wonderful for both of you to look at while you are away

Wow, what a guy..your wife is very lucky to have you. Be sure and videotape your marriage, your wife will be watching it a lot while youre away.
How about a trip to Carmel, stay at a bed and breakfast, and just enjoy each other.

I think what you have planned is a wonderful idea, and I think it will make your wife and the rest of your family very, very happy. you've been so thoughtful to consider everyone's feelings. you're obviously a wonderful husband, father, and family man.
I hope you all have a safe and wonderful time together.
God Bless you and your family.

Sounds great, but add a personal gift for her to remember you by, while you are away. Something that she and the children can pick up and hold or look at when they gets lonely.
