there is a fish that i think is maybe a type of koi, anyways it looks like it has writing on the sides of it, what is it???

I think you are referring to the Luo Han.
It is a cichlid (a hybrid - the exact combination is a trade secret) that was very popular a few years ago.
Some people still rear them.
They were supposed to bring good luck and the patterns on the side of their bodies have been said to form numbers or Chinese characters.
