Negative space in any art form is important, as it helps define the positive space.

In a world of noise, to hear silence, for me, is bliss. I am a person for whom music is extremely important, but the house empty and quiet is pure magic for me. I can sit and not listen to it for hours.

There is no music in silence but there is silence in music.

The silence and importance of it so often referred to has more to do with individual instruments. Notes are generally played stacatto as opposed to continuous like some strings.

So the silence in between an instruments notes adds character to the notes themselves.

Think Beethoven's Fifth. Or even a Black Sabbath song.

The pauses between the notes or power chords help define the power chords.

Additionally, there would be no meter and timing without the silences or time between notes. Silence is part of rythm.

there is music in silence, sometimes silence is harmonious and a potent method in delivering a message. there is also silence in music, some musical tones can be identified with the calmness of silence. lol i don't you'll ever get a definite philosophical answer to this, since philosophers constantly answer questions which question answers which bring about more questions.

I had a music teacher who loved telling us this story she heard about Beethoven not only writing good music, but good silence in the music as well.

She later found out that it came from some Peanut's movie or comic strip, but she still found the story to be very true and loved it even more.

I have nothing philosophical to say though, just my little anecdote. Or hers, really.

First of all I would like to wish all the viewers happy Music day as on 21st June,2007.

Music is which when you listen gives you peace of mind and surely it brings silence to the thoughts and feel lings ( feelings where there is pain and suffering).

Soft music is part of my life I can't be anywhere without it, it lest en my work load, mental tension and depression and above all the sense of being of my own and enjoy every moment of my favourite music.

I will not consider every music to bring silence to ones life but the older beats and Gazal's and surely the classical music of any form.

Silence is music and will always brighten the life and the feelings of ones heart.

Definetly it is the music is in the silence. Unless there is a background of silence the music cannot come. We can say silence is the mother of music. When the music is playing the pauses in between makes the music audible, that pause in between brings glory to the music . The pause is the scilence
