Why do neocons claim to be in favor of states rights, then used the U.S. Supreme court 2 override what Florida

It seems as though neocons want to pick and choose when what they believe in is applicable.

Because the recount was unconstitutional. The Court ruled 7-2 that the standards used in certain Florida counties violated Equal Protection. In a 5-4 decision, the Court voted that the recount couldn't continue. I thought everybody understood that.

Because the Florida legislature had already set the rules governing the election. The State's judiciary and Executive Branch have no say in elections, that is the domain of the Legislature. The legislature made provisions for recounting. Recounting would have to involve recounting ALL of the ballots not just select districts. Recounting consists of passing the ballots through the automatic counting machine a second time. No hand counting or even handling of ballots was allowed.

The State Supreme Court should not have heard the case from Al Gore at all. But they went ahead and stuck their noses where they had no say. This left George Bush with no alternative but to appeal to the Federal Courts about the misbehavior of the State court.

NOTE: regardless of all the illegal recounts done in select democratically controlled districts, Gore never had more votes. Not a single time.

Well I have never heard of Neocons (do you know how stupid that makes you sound) talking much about states rights but I have heard conservatives talking about it. Why Florida? Lets remind ourselves what happened. Bush won the election and the state law ordered a recount. Bush won again and Gore demanded a recount. Gore's lawyers filed their papers with the courts at 4:17 PM on election day so they must have been seeing the future. Bush won that recount. Gore demanded another recount but only in three counties were the dems were too stupid to know how to vote. Side bar: I had a good friend that I lived next to in Florida in 1992, after 2000 he wanted to know what kind of fool checks the back of his ballot. I was happy to tell him that I was a person who checked the back of my ballot. He hung up on me after calling me a couple of dirty names. We haven't spoken since then. So Bush won the election three times so far. They started doing a hand recount in those three counties. First they couldn't even decide what a good ballot looked like and then they finally got it. So they counted... Florida law REQUIRES that the Secretary of State call the election on a certain day and time. Katherine Harris had no choice. The Florida Supreme court overruled her and the standing law. That is called activism. The case was pushed to the US Supreme court because the outcome of Florida's election had national impact. The Supreme Court DID NOT declare Bush the winer. The Supreme Court said that Florida had to obey their own law and the that the election must be called. It was and Bush won again. In fact, Bush won every recount made by all of the newpapers and interested groups. BUSH WON!!! Got it?

Because they’re hypocrites. Bush went to the federal courts to overrule the Florida court because he could. Whatever is convenient and in their own self interest is the paramount neocon principle of morality and ethics.

Have you forgotten the Democrats actions to disqualify the absentee military votes? From what I understand, a recount would not have changed the outcome of the election. But would have stacked up even more in Bush's favor.

Uh...They didn't...Gore's Attorney's took it to the Supreme Court...Hell, Gore got 3 recounts, and fell further behind each time.....
