I have purchased a gateway laptop (MT3708) and would like to upgrade its RAM. My question is can I use almost any 1 gig Dimm which is DDR 533(PC2 4200) in this system. I was thinking of using the Crucial module on http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?ATT=0&CMP=AFC-SlickDeals&Submit=ENE&N=2000260381+1309221133+1309121113&name=1GB

The corsair memory selector recommended Part No. CT672814 1GB, 200-pin SODIMM to me.

At one point, I believe that RAM was very specific to each system, thus when not purchasing it, you had to go through the manufacturer. I'm not sure if those days are over.

Thanks in advance for any help,
Zorba

It looks like it would work. Memory has become very standardized, so you should not have any problems adding memory that you did not buy from Gateway.
Also, if there is a problem, Newegg will bend over backwards to make it right.

this is a form of RAM as others have reported. receive CPU-Z (do a google for it), extract it someplace and then run it. as quickly as run click on SPD. this might inform you one in all those RAM your laptop desires. on the different hand circulate onto a reminiscence manufaturors internet site (the two Kingston, Corsair or mandatory), and that they could have a reminiscence selector. you % your equipment from the lists and that they'll inform you one in all those reminiscence you prefer and how lots your laptop can help. desire this facilitates.

Have you checked your laptop manual for what brand of RAM it takes? Chances your RAM is proprietary and need to check Gateway's website if it is specific.
