It seems like whenever you hear about a person dying of AIDS people assume they are homosexual or abused drugs. The drug thing is understandable because of needles, but I don't see why everyone assumes it is more common in homosexuals than heterosexuals. I only want a reason though. I honestly don't care what your personal opinion of homosexuality is. I just want to know why, so please be nice about your answers!

Condoms are more likely to break during anal sex.
Men are very sexually active so they're more likely to have more partners.
I know lots of gay people and I only know 2 (one passed away) that have HIV and both those men were gay.
That's why I assume it's more common in the Gay community.

Look at the link provided below. Over 2/3rds of all AIDS cases in the USA in men are a result of homosexual acts. For women in the USA, 2/3rds of the cases of AIDS was the result from having sex with men who have homosexual acts.

To say this isn't spread within the gay community is ignorant and will kill those who believe in what you say. Know the facts.

The disease is also politicized because of the stigma that this illness carries. Because of this, people mix the statics of the world to dilute the gay component of AIDS in the US. But unless you plan to go to Africa soon to have sex there, these statics are meaningless.

Also by claiming that it is a heterosexual disease, people who make this claim are only trying to scare heterosexuals into funding the worlds most preventable disease.

Because male homosexuals have had the highest rate of AIDS since it was first diagnosed in the early 80's. Sorry, but the risk factors for the sexual behaviors of gay men are the same as IV drug users that share needles with others. I have worked in the medical field (laboratory service and nursing service) and the majority (+/-) 80% were gay males. The others were either women that got AIDS from a male partner that never told them they were gay, or males and females that were IV drug users.

There are also higher rates of blood borne diseases such as hepatitis A, B, C,..., every other STD, and a rise in the last five or six years of HPV among lesbian and bisexual women.

If you are involved in high risk behavior as I mentioned above, get checked. The sooner treatment can start, the better your chances are of living a longer life.

Because it was first spread and identified among homosexuals and bisexuals in the West. Back in the 1970s, there was a very active homosexual sex scene, where it was considered totally acceptable to have unprotected sex - after all, no risk of pregnancy, right?

Unfortunately, because there is a greater chance of minor injuries that goes along with anal sex, there was also a perfect chance for the transmission of AIDS through the exchange of body fluids.

So when someone who traveled a lot and who was part of that very active and promiscuous sex-scene was exposed to AIDS, it became widely spread among homosexuals before anyone realized it even existed, or that the strange new sickness wasn't just some isolated incident. All anyone knew was that people were suddenly dying, and they all seemed to be involved with that sex-scene.

When AIDS was first discovered it was homosexuals that were getting the disease so people still believe that that majority of people with the disease are homosexual and drug users, statistically these are the two groups that get the disease most often, so there is some truth to it.

Homosexual activity is more likely to spread AIDS than heterosexual activity. There are numerous studies confirming this. While it is possible to get AIDS from heterosexual activity, the vast majority of AIDS patients are either:

1) Gay males or
2) Intravenous drug users.

To point this out may be politically incorrect, but it is the truth.

when people in the US first became aware of AIDS the first cases were gay men so people though only gay people could get it. the medial world realized that anyone can get it almost right away but it became a stereotype that most people with AIDS are gay. i don't know if gay men do have the highest percentage of AIDS cases anymore, but even if statistically they did not, it would have a more widespread impact on popular opinion that almost all movies and shows about AIDS are about gay men

I think because that was the first group it was identified in.

So now people assume that is the group most likely to have HIV/Aids.... the second gtou follows is drug users. When in fact the gay community has been very diligent in education about HIV and is not the highest number of new cases...

We need to educate our youth, teens..... abut HIV and the risks of unprotected sex...

Because people who connect AIDS with homosexuals are just afraid to admit that straight people are getting it more than homosexuals.

Because homosexuals were the first discovered to have AIDS and were largely responsible for spreading AIDS.
