Sammy Sosa hit his 600th Home Run today. This in itself states Sosa's claim for a HOF bid. However, an incident with a corked bat for the Cubs in 2003, and his appearance on a steroid panel with such questionable characters as Mark McGwire, Rafael Palmiero, and Jose Canseco have raised questions about the legitamicy of his HR totals. Furthermore, the Sosa who signed with the Cubs as a 19-year-old lanky shortstop has been muscled up, to the point of possible steroid use in his 20 years since then. The panel has been cruel to McGwire. How will Sosa fare under their watchful eyes?

He may make it in 8 or 9 years but definitely not 1, 2, or 3rd years

I said "MAY" not "will."

Yes I do agree that Sammy Sosa has done something that only 4 other players have done but his unsportsmanlike conduct like what he did at the end of one of the Cubs games.... the fact that he was caught with a corked bat and talk about steriods which I can believe from how he used to be and how he just all of a sudden flourished into this HR hitting machine that he wasnt necessarily before I would say he will not get it because HOF is not only about numbers but also about what kind of person they were and what they portrayed themselves as which in Sosa's case is not a good one

Yes Sosa is a Hall a Famer he is only the fifth player in Major League history to hit 600 home runs. Just this alone should get him in the Hall by itself. Then there is this, there has only been 8 times that a player has hit 60 homers in one season and Sammy has 3 of these. I think steroids or no steroids, and with the corked bat, he should and better be a first ballot Hall of Famer.

I don't think he should. When I saw him playing (in his prime) I never thought I was watching a HOFer. The only prominent figure who is shadowed by the steroid controversy that I think is HOF worthy is Barry Bonds. It takes a lot more than homers to make a Hall of Famer. Sosa wasn't a great fielder either. If Sosa gets in go ahead and put Canseco, McGwire, Palmeiro, and anybody else who had a lot of homers or broke single season records. None of these guys have Hall of Fame Stats. It's because the bar has been set so low that questions like this even get asked.

As a Cubs fan I want to see him get in, but in reality I don't think it'll happen. Baseball put too much criticism on the "steroid era" that it's become ridiculous. As a single example, there's talk that Edgar Martinez, the greatest DH ever, will not get in the Hall. Though be sure to get your facts right, Sosa was traded to the Cubs....he didn't sign with them. He started with the the Sox, then to the Rangers, back to the Sox and then to the Cubs.

Unless there is some more proof that he did steriods or is tied to them more than he has, hes a shoo in. Maybe the steroid backlash will keep him off the first ballot and I beleive he probably did, he isnt the biggest fish in the steroid issue. All the steroid guys will eventually get in, its just a matter of when. However there is a cordicil. If anyone is convicted and sentenced in a court of law that they did indeed do steroids...then they will be made to suffer the fate of not getting in. Baseball is looking for someone to hang...I just hope its Barry Bonds and not Sammy lol

YES- Sammy Sosa is a Hall of Famer. There is no definitive proof about his alleged steroid involvement, so, in the absence of hard evidence, his numbers are what we go by, and they are of Cooperstown quality. He has the fifth most home runs in baseball history. From 1995 to 2004, Sosa hit 479 homers, the most at that time for any 10-year period of all time. He holds the NL record with six consecutive seasons of at least 40 home runs; only Babe Ruth, with seven, has a longer streak. There have been eight 60-home run seasons in history, and Sosa has three of them. Sosa hit more homers at Wrigley Field than Babe Ruth hit at Yankee Stadium. For a few years, he was the Cubs. In 2001, he had 160 RBIs, 94 more RBIs than anyone on his team, demolishing the record for largest disparity in RBIs between a team leader and the runner-up. He got caught with a corked bat and was exposed at the end of his time in Chicago for not being a good teammate. But sometimes, the numbers overwhelm all else. And that is the case with Sosa.

i do no longer think of he will make in on the 1st poll. he would be waiting to be elected on 2013 and in that pollthere are some actual HOFs: Mike Piazza, Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds and Craig Biggio. Biggio and Piazza will make it for constructive. Sosa, Bonds and Clemens are all related to HGH and that entire tale. Sosa did have a good volume of hits (2408) for a ability hitter. He might desire to pass into in his 2d attempt or previous, he has 15 possibilities.

He's a first ballot hall of famer. 600 Home runs and took the second shortest in at bats to do it. Also he's hit more home runs in Wrigley Field then Ruth did in Yankee Stadium that's telling you something. He drives runs in and is still a threat at 38 years old. He will be in the hall of fame.

Not until all the truth comes out about steroid use in baseball. How does someone hit all the home runs he did without some special help?

I think he will, eventually, but until we see how the writers treat McGwire in 2008 and beyond (the 2007 smackdown was foregone) we can't predict with any confidence.
