Yeah, it is. However I happen to enjoy watching them, seeing the world from the veiwpoint of other countries. One reason people don't like to watch these things is because they can't understand what the people are saying, and they don't like to read the subtitles. One word, LAZY. Foreign movies are very interesting, and they can give you an idea as to how the world is outside of the USA, which we all need very much.

Well I am from Australia and I love american movies. This is probably why Americans dont watch foreign films. Australian films are so corny I cant stand them, unless they are about the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders.

We have a free to air TV channel here and it regularly shows movies in other languages with sub titles and i do watch them sometimes but I have yet to come across one that I actually enjoyed and will watch again.

I actually love foreign films.. most recently I watched A very long engagement.. and was quite impressed.. , but my favorite, I think, would be either Rosenstrasse or Show Me Love.. I'm also quite addicted to Korean Horror movies.. (like Tale of Two Sisters)

Mostly it's just a matter of finding them.. they don't come to any theaters near me, so I have to just HOPE to figure out what is new.. otherwise catch up on older ones..

Subtitles just take getting used to.. German films tend to be a bit easier for me.. I can understand a fair bit of it without the subtitles, but overall it's not difficult.. later on I forget whether what I watched was sub titled or dubbed.. it's second nature..

Actually - the problem with watching a foreign film is usually with subtitles. Regular folks simply have a tough time following the proceedings. I am a self professed film fanatic, and foreign films form quite a portion of my viewings - but my friends simply shrug off when I offer some titles mostly on account of the subs.

As for a certain ranter here, he simply does not have the sensibility that goes with viewing a foreign film.

The foreign films I have seen have generally been of pretty poor quality and content.

I bought a DVD containing many short movies, most of which were from abroad. It just wasn't that good.

The last full length movie from a foreign director I can recall was Cemetary Man. -- Again, it was poorly done. An hour in I turned it off the first time I was watching it because the plotline was not advancing - I mean learn to use the editting room...

Considering that Pan's Labyrinth, Volver, Jet Li's Fearless, Hero, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon all did well at the box office, I'd say your statement isn't quite accurate.

The problem is not the audience. It's how films are distributed/advertised in the US. That's why great films may not reach as many people as they should. I love foreign films and I'm always on the lookout for something new and different.

Ummm... If more came out in theaters, I would watch them. I was really looking forward to seeing a few, but they never came to a theater near me...

My favorite foreign film is Life Is Beautiful.
I'm planning on seeing Pan's Labyrinth soon.

Yeah it is. I would like to see some more. Volver was really good. I also like the Princess and the Warrior and Pans Labyrinth.

They see them.

The only thing is that they have been remade and now they are in English so that American audiences can understand the dialogue.
